I am a conservative.
A God-fearing, gun-loving, constitutional conservative. I have certain values and principles along with policies that I look for in a candidate and Trump has little to none of what I would like to see in a candidate. Now before some of you ignore this article, just hear me out. I will do my best to talk about each argument I have heard for supporting Trump and go through them.
Each statement I highlight are actual statements I have either read or been told myself.
"Not voting for Trump is a vote for Hillary"
This is a very common saying amongst Trump supporters and it is a weak statement. If I do not vote for Trump that does not mean my vote gets transferred to Hillary or that Hillary will gain another supporter. For me to vote for Hillary, as ludicrous as that sounds, I would have to check that box at the polls. If I do not vote for Trump and I do not vote for Hillary, that simply means neither of them receive my vote.
"Do you want Hillary to win?"
Of course I do not want Hillary to win. I believe Hillary is the most corrupt person in politics. She is a liar, has no regard for the constitution, power hungry, and panders like there is no tomorrow. I could write an entire novel on her, but let's stay on topic. I think Hillary will be worse for America than Obama, but that does not mean I will cast a vote for the man who does not align with my principles. This is more about voting for what I believe in and holding to my personal beliefs.
"He is the republican nominee, you have to support him."
I do not HAVE to do anything. I might be registered republican, only to vote for Cruz in the primaries, but that does not mean I have to support the nominee. This idea goes against free thinking. I understand the delegate system and how it works, but that still does not mean I have an obligation to support the nominee.
"The people wanted Trump, get over it."
This is factually untrue. Throughout the primaries, for most of the states, Trump was either over or under forty percent of the vote when he won. This is a plurality but it is not a majority of the vote. Given that we do not know where the vote would have gone if there were not seventeen candidates in total at the start. There were still more votes going against Trump.
You do not want Hillary to win and the left seems to get more insane each day, I get it. I understand that side of the argument and if that is the reason for you to vote for Trump, then I completely understand. However, if you try to tell me that he has great policies and that he will uphold the constitution and the foundations on which this country was built, then I can not say that I understand.
Before I talk about my problems with Trump, a little briefing. I will do my best to keep it simple and I know he has never been solid on one position for anything, so I will do my best with what he has been consistent with.
Let's begin.
1. He is a liar.
Now before you go off on the "all politicians lie", just let me explain. Trump never stays the same on any policy and will openly lie to you about what position he takes. When it comes to immigration, obviously there is that magnificent wall of his, but he stated that he is the most hardcore candidate on immigration. Although in 2012 Trump criticized Romney on his views about immigration. Trump has also said the wall would be negotiable. Donald has stated that he is pro-second amendment, but in 2000 he supported the assault weapons ban. He is against Obamacare, yet has praised the socialist systems in Canada and elsewhere on their healthcare systems. The list could go on. Ben Shapiro, editor-in-chief at Dailywire.com, created a video to explain how he is a lair and covers these topics.
2. Trump is vulgar sexist.
This segment could be twice the length of the article, but some people do so much to defend what Donald has said. Let's start with a few examples of how he has "respected" women. Trump has had multiple affairs. Starting from when he was married to Ivana, he slept with Marla Maples, and then while married to Marla he pursued his current wife Melania. During the primaries Trump went on to disrespect Ted Cruz's wife Heidi and compare her to Melania, which is something high school boys do. Trump has called a woman "disgusting" fo breastfeeding. During the primaries he attacked Carly Fiorina on her face instead of her policies. If I am wrong on any of these, please let me know.
3. Trump does not have a solid economics plan.
"But he is just so successful how could he have a terrible plan?" because he is crony capitalist and will put forward protectionist regulations instead of ones that allow a free market to succeed. When Trump speaks about trade, I could almost believe I am listening to Bernie Sanders up there. Trump has spoken about how we need "fair trade" and that we should have tariffs in place. Tariffs, throughout history, have had a negative effect on the economy. Tariffs can be beneficial to some but overall have damaging effects. Trump also needs to understand that for an economy to succeed on a global scale, free trade must be present. Restrictions on trade does not help anyone.
4. Trump will not uphold the constitution.
Trump will allow public officials to sue the media and use the FCC to fine critics. This clearly goes against free speech. Donald Trump has said that eminent domain is a wonderful thing, so you can forget about private property. Trump does not even have the slightest idea to what the three main powers of the United States government do. Trump is authoritarian in the way he speaks about the roles of government. There s an article at the National Review that goes more in depth.
5. He will undermine our allies.
Recently in an interview with the New York Times, Donald had openly stated how he might let Russia walk right on into the Baltic republics in spite f NATO. New York Times asked Trump if he would defend NATO allies, to which he replied "..decide to come to their aid only after reviewing if those nations have fulfilled their obligations to us, if they have fulfilled their obligations to us then the answer is yes." This goes against NATO. For a potential presidential candidate to speak on this idea, is rather dangerous. Not too long ago, certain parts of the Turkish military attempted a coup. The coup sadly failed. Turkey's elected leader, Erdogan, is an Islamist who is instituting his own form of radical islam into the country. Erdogan has been soft on Isis and after the coup has purged thousands of people from power and influence within the country. He also suspended the European Convention on Human Rights in their country so they can go after their enemies. Trump praised Erdogan on how he handled the coup. Ben Shapiro over at the Dailywire shares more on this.
The problems I have listed are just a portion of why I do not trust Trump. I have inserted to links if you would like to read more. I can not make someone vote against or for Trump, everyone has the right to vote for whomever they see fit. These are just some of my reasons as to why I will be writing in a different name come November.
