I can only hope to become half as great as her

Why My Mom is My Best Friend

Since the moment I was born, all it took was one look for me to realize I had met my best friend: the day I looked in my mother's eyes. There is no one else in this world that I would want to look like, act like, sound like, or hopefully turn into other than my mother. She is my best friend and always will be for many reasons.

1. She Is Always Sticking Up For Me

When I was younger, fighting my elementary school teachers for not giving me an A when she thought I deserved it. Now, she boldly offers to talk to my boss after I've had a bad day at work. Regardless of the situation, my Mom's power to use her words in my defense has never failed me.

2. She Watches Disney With Me

Sometimes she knows the words to all of the songs better than I do. She is the first one to get excited when a new Disney movie comes out and to be the first one in line at the movie theatre to watch it. But that's my mom and I wouldn't trade her for the world.

3. She Always Try To "Get It"

I had to teach her how to text, create her own Facebook, and basically anything that has to deal with a computer. But no matter how many times I show her, she probably will never actually "get it" but that's okay too.

4. She Wants To See Me Succeed

I knew there was a reason that she made me do my homework, fill out any extra credit problems, keep my grades up, apply for scholarships, and make sure I go above and beyond.

5. She Has Seen It All

From my most embarrassing moments in life to the times I was so sick I made her come to my rescue, my mom has seen them all. And luckily for me, she won't love me any less after seeing any of these awful events.

6. She Listens To My Problems

No matter how petty I may see at the time, she is always willing to listen to me. Although tough love is sometimes the answer, that's sometimes the entire reason I want to go to her in the first place.

7. She Wants To Know Everything

No matter what I say to her, she always knows if I am lying or telling the truth. Every time I say "It's nothing, I'm fine" my mom will always know better. There's nothing I can do or say that my mom won't see straight through.

8. I Am Her

Even though I always roll my eyes the second she asks someone how much I look like her, I could only hope to reflect some of the greatest qualities that my mom has. I couldn't be any happier to say that my mom is my best friend.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
