Every overeager freshman enters college with almost the exact same mindset.
"This is where I'm going to meet my best friends, friends that I'll have forever. This is my time to start over and really branch out."
A slightly far-fetched goal, but somehow those friends end up meaning a lot to you. Whether you meet them through class, mutual friends, dorming or pledging, something just sticks. No matter how they came into my life, I can personally say that the people I met this year will be a large part of my future.
To my roommate:I'm sorry for all of the times I've borrowed your clothes, but honestly none of mine look good on me, and yours are just so much cuter. Also, my alarm always wakes you up... because you never seem to have a class that starts before noon. But really, who else would I go eat with at random times of the day, make random comments to (like "Do you think I should go to the bathroom now or after I watch this episode of Grey's?"), get ready with for two hours before we go out and jam out with to the weirdest music? I couldn't imagine my freshman year with anyone but you, and I'm more than happy to call you a best friend.
To my amazing, caring, crazy, anything-goes girl friends: This year would not be the same without you. We complain about well, I'd say everything. We take the best and the worst pictures. And it doesn't matter if it's guys, parties, food or homework, I can positively say that you all have my back, and you will for the rest of our lives. I can't thank you enough for your support through everything this year has put me through.
It's hard to forget the guy friends you meet in college, considering they mooch off of everything that you own. But I have to say, you've made my life significantly more entertaining. When you stumble into the room at god-knows what time of night, I can't help but laugh. Thank you for the times you've listened to me, gotten food with me, given me advice, introduced me to your attractive friends, and just put up with my girly antics in general. And finally, thank you for living a block from me next year.
Joining a sorority was one of the best decisions of my second semester. So to my sisters, my Big and my pledge class: I love you. And not that clich kind of love that people make fun of, but a genuine I-don't-know-what-I'd-do-without-you love. Pledging was an experience I'll never forget and one that I would not want to do with anyone else. Thank you for the help during study hours, the support, and most importantly, the laughs (especially before initiation). Thank you to my Big for always driving me around, making me feel so loved and being my rock. I'm extremely proud to call you all my sisters. You will most definitely be in my life forever.
And cheers to freshman year. You came and went, but I can proudly say I made the most amazing friends that I wouldn't trade for anything.
