After high school graduation, every incoming college student swears they will not lose ties with their high school friends. But I've learned that this statement is not always true. After starting college, I realized that I didn't have all the friends I had in high school. I realized I was going to have to make new friends, and that thought frightened me.
So to start making new friends, I decided to go through sorority recruitment. Although it was the most tiring, stressful week of my life, I met my college best friend. And even though you are about to graduate college and go on to graduate school at a completely different university, this is what I want you to know...
You mean so much to me. In such a short period of time, we became best friends. Not just the kind of best friends that go out to movies together or go out to eat, but the kind of best friends that take each other to the doctor or go grocery shopping together just because. On the days that I just wanted to sit in bed and cry, you picked me up and went to Dairy Queen just to cheer me up. Or whenever we were walking home and I sprained my ankle, not only did you help me walk the rest of the way home, but you got Jimmy John's to deliver sandwiches to us in an apartment complex parking lot. Whenever I went through recruitment, you were one of my Gamma Chi's. At that point in time, I not only looked up to you because you were in a sorority and that was something I wanted to be in, but because you were kind and you always reached out a hand to all the potential new members. At the end of the week, it just so happened I became one of your sisters. After that, we just became best friends.
Also, don't ever let anyone tell you that you aren't good enough. You can do anything that you want to do in life and I'll be damned if I'm not right by your side. You are very kind-hearted and loving, but you can be sassy just like me. Don't ever change for anyone but yourself, because you deserve the very best in life. Boys will come and go, but sisters are forever. Thank you for being there for me when I needed someone to vent to about my ex. Although he never mattered anyways (and you never knew him), it still meant so much to me that you sat and listened to me cry about him for hours on hours. And after I would finish crying, thank you for taking me to Diary Queen to get desserts.
I don't even want to think about your graduation coming up in December. I haven't let myself think about the fact that you're about to graduate because I know I'm just going to cry. In the short amount of time that we've known one another, you have taught me so much. You showed me the ins and outs of college tailgating and how to have fun even when I have difficult tests to study for. We have spent too many nights baking cookie cakes and other unhealthy treats instead of planning out our workout routine. People have questioned me as to why I'm friends with someone three years older than I am, and I always tell them it's a good question, but I don't really know why. We just clicked; we became instant best friends. I know that after you graduate we are still going to be best friends, but I don't know what I am going to do without you.
You are the person I turn to for absolutely anything, no matter how big or small, and that means the absolute world to me. It's not every day that you find someone that you can confide in and they do not judge you. I could not imagine not having someone to explain my step-by-step thought process to about something that probably won't even be important next week. You keep me sane. You are also the person I would rather sit around and watch Netflix with on a Saturday night whenever we could be out at a party. All of the nights we've spent binge-watching Netflix together will never be forgotten because that is what I would honestly rather be doing than anything else; however, we have got to stop being such homebodies. LOL.
If I could sum up our friendship in one word, it would have to be "thankful." I'm so thankful that God brought you into my life. You have brought unconditional joy and laughter to my life, and I don't know how I can thank you enough. You are and always will be one of my absolute best friends, and you will forever have a special place in my heart. If you ever need me after you graduate, whether it be to drive two hours to your hometown just to talk, or just to motivate you in grad school, I'm always here. I love you and wish you the best of luck with grad school. You're smart, and I know you can do this! Thanks for helping make my first semester in college amazing. You're my best friend and you mean the world to me! I love you!
