I once worked with a man who was very into the spirit world. He gave me a lecture on his spirit animal (he was a wolf), and how to find mine. I decided that instead of going through the steps that he took to find his, I would go about it a little differently. I thought about what I would want to be, and I came to the conclusion that my cat is my spirit animal. Here's why:
1. We both love sleep.
I need a solid 12 hours of sleep every night to function. On top of snoozing away half of my day, I dedicate at least an hour every day to napping. "Cat naps" are both my cat and my favorite things. If there was a class dedicated to napping with my cat, I would ace it.
2. We are both experts at ignoring people.
Cats are masters at tuning you out. They only hear what they want to hear. I, too, am a professional at ignoring. I may seem as if I am intrigued by what you are telling me, but there is a good chance that I am only hearing about 50 percent of the conversation (if you are lucky).
3. We are great at getting in the way.
Like my feline friend, I am pretty much always in the wrong place at the wrong time.
4. We both like being left alone.
Cats are notorious for their independence. They would much rather lay on their own than surrounded by loud, obnoxious people. I am also well known for my want to be left alone. I am much happier spending a night in bed (preferably, with my cat) watching an episode (or 20) of "The Office" than being out with hundreds of people screaming and acting like lunatics.
5. We won't put up with your drama.
Just leave us out of your business. We really do not care.
6. We can make a mess.
Ruining furniture, scattering toys across the floor, and spilling food are a few of our feline's faux-"paws". I will admit to being a messy person. I don't clean my room, I leave food out, and I leave my clothes scattered around the house. We would be happy to make a mess for you. But do not, I repeat, do not, ask us to clean it up. We won't. In fact, we will do anything to avoid cleaning.
7. We put ourselves first.
We are our no. 1 priority. We put our needs before the needs of others. We know that it is important to care for ourselves, so we will do whatever it takes to make our life the best it can be.
8. We like to be the center of attention.
Whether it be a deep, excruciating meow in the middle of the night, or screaming at somebody to listen. My cat and I both like to have all eyes and ears on us.
9. We enjoy being pampered.
I may not like belly rubs like my cat, but I do love a good manicure.
10. We will love you unconditionally.
We may be independent troublemakers, but our hearts will always be open. We love with all of our being, and (more often than not) are in need of a good cuddle.
