Why music means so much to ME

It's more than just sounds and words

"Music is just sounds and words!"

Music is far from just sounds and words and all the small things in-between. Music tends to hit me hard when I start to listen to my favorite tunes. To some people they listen for the enjoyment. Other people listen to music to get away from the outside world. I, on the other hand, have continued to listen to music because it hits me deep down inside.

Music might be a small part in people's lives, but I know some people who connect with music and certain bands just as much as I do. Music has saved my life, in the simplest form. Music saved me from the darkest of thoughts when I have gone through deep, rough times in life. Turning to my favorite bands, Twenty One Pilots, Pierce the Veil and Sleeping with Sirens for example, have touched a buried nerve within me to keep me going. The words in their songs connect with my mind on a whole other level.

Music can brighten moods, it can pump you up, it can pick you up from the lowest of levels. I could talk about how much music has impacted my life for forever. I feel like when I listen to music I don't just sing along, I think about the meaning and the tone the music gives off. Some songs hit closer to home than others. Some songs remind you of good or bad times in the past. Some songs are those that you need to scream your head off with girlfriends on long car rides. And other songs, you sit and listen to in your room just to relax and get away from the uncomfortable realities bothering you in the world at that point in time.

Finding Twenty One Pilots completely changed my idea of life as a whole. That sounds pretty radical thinking "It's just a band", right? Wrong though. If you sit and listen to the lyrics of every song in every single album of theirs, I feel a deeper connection with their music than I have with anything else around me. It crazy what a few words can make you feel.

When someone you know is struggling, having a hard time and not knowing what to feel, point them in a direction of listening to things they enjoy. It's really crazy how much a song can make you feel different in a matter of minutes. Music has become sort of a meditation and relaxer for someone like me. The anxieties thrown at you on a daily basis can sometimes be too much to handle, but if you take a few minutes to yourself a couple times a day and listen to your favorites tunes, you can flip your attitude completely and continue on with your day. This might not work for everyone, but it doesn't hurt to try, am I right? Expand your horizons, listen to things you don't normally listen too and you might just find something that clicks in your mind that will surprise you for the better. Music changed my life completely, and I hope some people come to the same realization and have as big of a smile on their face as I do writing this article. Of course, my music is blaring in the background as I type because who doesn't like a good ole writing session with your favorite music to go with. Really is a mood changer. Thank you music for becoming a turning point in my life, I don't know what I would do without this simple, mind changing creation called music.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
