We all have that one artist we can turn to no matter what mood we are in. Whether we’re happy, sad, nostalgic - music speaks to us in ways that others can’t. I know I’m not the only one that needs some type of background noise whenever I am working on something. Take right now for example, while I am writing this, I have one of my favorite albums soothing me in the background – it’s something that I’ve grown accustomed to.
No matter how old we get, it’s not difficult to determine which artists have stuck with us throughout our most important moments. All you need to hear is the opening note of your former high school anthem and you’re stuck in a downward spiral of nostalgia, but in the best way possible. Music can literally transport you back in time. I have so many memories linked to particular songs and as soon as I hear those songs, all of the memories come rushing back.
Of course, there are the songs that you associate with your cringe-worthy middle school days, the songs that got you through senior year of high school and the songs that kept you sane during your first year of college. No matter the occasion, music will always be there.
It is amazing just how many different artists there are. Whenever I find a new band that I like, I feel like I just made a new best friend and I want to know everything there is to know about them. The music that we listen to is a representation of who we are as people, which is why a lot of people get so passionate about their favorite musical artists. I even know a few people that are hesitant to show their friends the music they like because of how special it is to them.
Music is with us for all of our biggest milestones. From our wedding day to college graduation – those songs will be the ones that stick with us the longest. They will be the songs that we show our kids and receive judgmental looks for in return. Naturally music changes over time, but the classics always seem to stay the same.
Music is a powerful tool and impacts everyone in one way or another. Think about it, there is that one artist that has been there throughout the majority of your life. Music is literally one of the best friends that we could ever have.
