I have been through my fair share of heartache. Some situations in my life, I never thought I would be able to move past. But I did it.
The most impertinent advice a person can give someone who is struggling with a situation in life is to simply move on.
I know, I know. It isn't that simple. In fact, moving on is definitely a process and takes time. Moving on is tough and you have to be willing to do all that you can. You have to want it badly enough to succeed.
Contrary to popular belief, moving on is not saying that whatever happened isn't important and existential, it is acknowledging that and learning from it. It is picking up the pieces and becoming a stronger individual. It is about embracing the circumstance and making the choice to overcome it.
I think that it is important to realize that sometimes, things just don't work out the way we plan them to.
“I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.” - Marilyn Monroe
The best medicine for an aching heart is the prescription to move on. To realize that we cannot control things that happen to us in life but to understand that we have to power to not let those things control us.
We also must learn to appreciate silver linings.
With every bad situation, there is some good that can come out of it. Even when we can't see it. We have to try and look at the bigger picture.
"Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss, or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have - life itself." - Walter Anderson
The toughest part about life is living it; making mistakes, experiencing heartache and picking yourself up to do it all over again - now that makes you human.
Embrace life for what it is. If you are unhappy, you have all the power to change that. Moving on from the past is a good start. Live your life for yourself and don't apologize for it.
