I love Taylor Swift. I'm one of those fans who eagerly awaits her next album and purchases it the second it goes on iTunes. When her first album released in 2006, I was belting out the lyrics to "Our Song," "Picture To Burn," and "Tim McGraw." There's something about her songs that just make it so fun to sing out loud in the car. Her five albums have been there for me through the rollercoaster of love, from first dates to breakups, and I love her for that. However, as her albums have gone on, I always find myself saying in the back of my head, "I miss the old Taylor Swift."
Don't get me wrong, I still love her catchy songs, and I understand artists need to change their style to not sound repetitive. But I really do miss the old curly-haired, girly and elegant, guitar-slamming, cowboy-boot-wearing country singer. She was fun, original, totally relatable, and most importantly, she was herself. She was this glittery country princess who was poetic in her songs because she was speaking from experience and speaking from her heart.
I am and always will be a fan of Taylor Swift. She doesn't disappoint with each album she comes out with, but I have to brace myself every time for a completely different genre and style of music. I always end up loving her songs, but I find myself always going back to her old albums (Shoutout "Fearless") when I need a deeper, more reflective and emotional song to listen to. She somehow found the right words to say when we all had a broken heart or a crush on someone. She spoke on behalf of all of us girls, and it was so comforting to know a star like her was so relatable.
So even though she departed from country a little over a year ago, I am still recovering. The Taylor Swift who would go to award shows with beautiful classy gowns and bouncy curls, and never go on stage without her guitar, will forever have a place in my heart. Hollywood captivated Taylor Swift, but her old country music still captivates me.
As a fan who will always support her, I understand that through the years, she has adapted and changed to find herself. And with that will come a different style of music, hair, and fashion. She is still a role model to her millions and millions of fans because we still see her at her core, and that has never changed. As she goes on making more albums, there's always that shred of hope in me that wishes she will throw it back to country music, or will write a "diary entry" song.
"I will never change, but I will never stay the same either." -Taylor Swift
