For me, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was wonderful. It brought me back to a simpler time in my life. I was once again sucked into the world of magic. I have tried to read more books about magic, but none of them have felt the same as Harry Potter. They were all boring and too technical. Harry Potter books immerse the reader into a completely different world. The world wasn’t always a happy world, but the magic and wonder of it all made the readers feel like they were in the middle of the story with Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was amazing for me. It was like I was a kid again discovering magic for the first time. Most people were disappointed with the screenplay. They were unhappy with the way that the main characters had changed 19 years later. Harry, Ron, and Hermione were adults now with stressful jobs and a family to take care of. Of course, they were different! People change and not always in a good way. They also defeated the darkest wizard in the world so that changed them too. For people to expect them to be the same kind of innocent 18-year-olds was silly.
Another part of the screenplay that people were upset about was that it was a screenplay and not a novel. Since it was a screenplay people were saying that there weren’t enough details. Obviously, there would be less details because it wasn’t a novel. The whole magic of the screenplay was that it’s a screenplay. I wish that I was lucky enough to go to London and see the story unfold on the stage.
People also said the time warp in the story was a cop out. I liked it. It made for and exciting plot because I didn’t know what was coming next. It also gave the reader a look into what would have happened if Harry hadn’t defeated Voldemort. That is definitely a world that I would not want to live in. A world in which Harry Potter was not alive would be a terrifying world.
The best part was that we, as readers, got to continue the story with a new generation. Albus and Scorpius were a great addition to the Harry Potter world. It was interesting to see the dynamic between Albus and Harry. Harry is definitely the epitome of a struggling dad.
Overall, I enjoyed the story! I imagine it would be even better to see the play live in action. I can only hope that they’ll film it and I’ll get to see it someday.
