A-Z: Why I Love My Sorority
odyssey

Joining a sorority has changed my life positively for so many reasons. When I joined a sorority, my friends and family thought I was going to turn into a party animal. In fact, I really didn’t think the sorority life was for me. The movies made it look so scary and judgmental that I didn’t think I would fit in. Luckily, my sorority turned out to be the perfect home for me. The service opportunities provided to me and the friendships I have built in this organization has made me a stronger woman. By being a sorority girl, every day I get to defy the stereotypes that the movies horribly depict. For the following reasons, I am proud to be a sorority girl.

A: Acceptance of all members, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, class, etc.

B: “Buying your friends” is not what a sorority is at all.

C: Can always count on one another and support each other.

D: Don’t underestimate us, we’re tougher than you think.

E: Everyone deserves a chance. You never know, maybe that new member is going to be your maid of honor one day.

F: Friendships that last a lifetime are the only kinds of friendships worth having.

G: Graduating together after 4 years is such an accomplishment.

H: Honor your founders, they made this all happen for you.

I: I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T women.

J: Joining my sorority is the best decision I made freshman year.

K: Kill the haters with kindness.

L: Lucky to be a sorority girl.

M: Memories that will last a lifetime are irreplaceable.

N: New obsession with painting canvases.

O: Opportunities for advancement in the sorority and in the real world.

P: Participation in events makes college more fun.

Q: Quitting is never an option because your sisters help you out.

R: Relax, it’s all going to be okay.

S: Stereotypes that aren’t real AT ALL, you get to defy them.

T: Time with sisters is never time wasted.

U: Understanding each other's differences is extremely crucial.

V: Value the memories you make.

W: “We’re all in this together.”

X: X-citement never ends.

Y: You don’t need no man, “‘Cause we are sistas, we stand together.”

Z: Zero chances of failing. Your sisters have your back!

So here's to you, Sigma Kappa, for everything you have done for me as a woman. Thank you for teaching me how to be a better friend, role model, and teacher to my sisters. I can only hope that when I have a daughter, she will want to join the precious Sigma Kappa sisterhood as well.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
