Ellen has the most amazing talk show that airs at 4 p.m. every day and is the best way to relax after a stressful day of classes. She is a comedian and a TV host who you simply have to love. But most importantly, she is an advocate for our society and is making incredible changes in people's lives. She stands up for what she believes and isn’t afraid to be who she truly is.

Here are some of the top reasons why everyone should look up to Ellen DeGeneres.

1. She stands up for what she believes in

As many of you know, Ellen came out as lesbian to her audience on live television for all to see in 1997. She put everything on the table for people to digest, risked her television show, her audience, and yet she still has one of the most watched talk shows. Ellen coming out on her television show has led to so many changes in this world and more people are comfortable with expressing themselves freely. She is a true advocate for the LGBTQ community, and I applaud everything she has done for America.

2. She gives back to those in need

Not only does she invite thousands of famous people on her show, but she also invites those who are making a difference in their own community. For example, she invites teachers, foster parents, those with an illness yet still helping others over themselves, and many more. Ellen DeGeneres wants to recognize those individuals and give back to them for their incredible support to the goodness in this world. Thank you, Ellen, for noticing the ones who don’t ask to be recognized, they just want to help others in need.

3. ”Be kind to one another”

If you haven’t watched Ellen’s talk show before, after every episode she ends with the phrase, “Be kind to one another.” These words seem so simple, but mean so much more than it actually sounds. In a world filled with hatred and terrorism, a little kindness can go a long way. There is no need to hate someone because of what he or she looks like or what they believe in. Be kind to one another and stop the hatred.

4. She can always make you smile

Ellen not only talks about the serious issues in the world, but her main focus is to make her audience laugh. And we could all use a little extra laughter in our life, right? On every episode, Ellen dances and sings with the audience. She goes up into the audience and dances between the rows. She ensures to connect with the audience and lets them know how much she appreciates them. She encourages people to dance along and spread happiness among others.

5. She is a role model

Ellen DeGeneres is a perfect role model for everyone who needs someone to look up to. She speaks about topics on live television that many others are too scared to say on their own. Her caring personality encourages others to keep pushing through adversity and to ignore the negativity that surrounds you. Thank you, Ellen, for shining some light on this world during a time where it can be hard to find the good.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
