Why I Live For The Fall Season

It doesn't take snow and some colorful leaves to feel that fall vibe.

As a Floridian, I understand that fall doesn't really exist in Florida. We just have summer, which is really hot, and not summer, which is not as hot, and we may have a chance at like 5 good days in which the temperature is about 65 degrees, but then we will complain that we're cold and miss the sun. But I honestly do love fall; I know that down here in the Sunshine State we don't get all of the things that accompany fall in the northern states, like the leaves changing colors or the snow, but maybe that's why I love fall so much. And being born in August, I am a summer baby, so I really should live for the summer, but I just love all of the things that come with the fall season.

Since I'm in Florida and don't have a colorful leaf change or a cushy snow blanket to look forward to, one thing that I can look forward to in fall weather is the drop in humidity. This is the time to be alive! You can actually curl your hair and expect to last longer than the 8-minute walk to your school. You can assure that your hair will be just as straight as it was in the morning when you get home. There's no frizz, no constant sweating, just lovely, beautiful fall hair. Although there is a drop in the humidity in the fall, there is no possible way in Florida to completely ditch the humidity, but it definitely makes Floridians say, "Oh, it's not so bad here. This is why I love fall."

Another piece of fall that lays close to my heart is the holidays it holds. Now, I'm sure this is felt across the board no matter where you're from, but the season of fall really is just packed with awesome holidays. Let's name the big ones because those are the ones that matter: Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Those are the big three of the fall season and for good reason. Let's start with Halloween; I was only big on dressing up for Halloween when I was little, but my absolute joy of Halloween is the movies on television during this month. I've got two words: Hocus Pocus. That's right, I would record that movie and watch it every day after school until I went to bed or got the remote snatched away from me (and I still do it to this day because I may chronologically be 18, but I'm actually a 6-year-old at heart). Once I hit about 14, I honestly lost interest in dressing up because it was just too much work and honestly, who's gonna give an 18-year-old in a 'Candy Corn Witch' costume some candy when she strolls up among the 10-year-olds also begging for candy from strangers. Odds are NOT in my favor.

Next holiday: Thanksgiving. Lordy, the FOOD! Also being thankful for all you have (and all of the food you're about to stuff into your mouth until you're so bloated you pull the unbuttoned pants trick). But honestly, this holiday is just awesome because you get a whole day to just hang out with your family and enjoy each others company, which I believe should be an every week thing, but Thanksgiving is just a great holiday; also the parades are a plus. I know they're like the same thing every year, but that's what makes them special. They're something that you can count on to remain constant.

Lastly, CHRISTMAS! Give me those buckets of popcorn that relatives from far away send you and the ABC Family (now Freeform) 25 Days of Christmas special, and I am ready to go. For me, things like gifts don't matter much anymore. It's the time with family and the traditions celebrated and made, the times of joy because 'tis the season. It's the fact that you can count on someone from the Salvation Army sitting outside of Publix ringing his bell and people donating into his title bucket because it's Christmas. The holidays of fall are just heart warming and make you feel happy deep inside the pit of your stomach.

Not to mention the activities that you can do in fall: hay rides, carving pumpkins, making pumpkin seeds, making Christmas cookies, cooking Thanksgiving dinner, cooking Christmas dinner (if you're in my family you know what I mean when I say 'picking up Christmas dinner'). There's just a happy note that encompasses fall and the things that it holds in its name. I love fall and it is positively the best season to go through. So the rest of you sit and beg for the heat of summer to come back, and I'll be over here with my pretty, not frizzy hair and my cute fall clothes on, living life and doing every possible 'fall' thing possible.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
