Ever since she was born, my little sister, Elise, has been my best friend. We may argue from time to time, but at the end of the day, she is my absolute favorite person in the whole world. I'm so thankful to have such a strong bond with her because I truly don't know what I would do without her. Here are just a few of the million reasons why little sisters are the best.
1. Little sisters make every day an adventure.
No matter how boring whatever I'm doing may be, if I have my sister by my side, my day automatically becomes more exciting. We always find something to laugh about or some way to make the situation better. Whenever I had to clean out my room during the summer, I would always enjoy doing it so much more if I had my sister with me because we would blast some throwback music and dance around while we cleaned. Belting out the "High School Musical" and "Camp Rock" soundtracks (even though neither of us can sing) never gets old.
2. Little sisters are great listeners.
My sister is always there for me and willing to listen to me while I vent about whatever may have happened on a given day. She is always especially helpful when I have disagreements with my friends because she is able to give me her unbiased input. She doesn't really know my friends that well, so she can just give advice on how to mend the issue based on the story. I don't ever have to worry about her telling on me or repeating what I said to my other friends.
3. Little sisters are some of the few people who understand what your parents are like.
Whether it is a minor argument with my mom or a funny moment with my dad, my sister can understand it all. She knows what my parents and extended family are like so she can appreciate all the moments we share as a family.
4. Little sisters live with you.
I think that this is what I miss most about my sister while I'm at college. Since my sister is also my best friend, it was always so much fun living with her because it was like living with my best friend. I loved hearing all her stories about school and laughing together during dinner. We still get to do this -- but just over Facetime, phone calls, and text messages. Although it can be tough to miss her while I'm at school, it makes being home on breaks much more meaningful.
5. Little sisters are perfect people to pass down clothes to.
Although my sister and I can't really share clothes yet because she's thirteen and I'm eighteen, I do get to pass down clothes to her. Whenever I have clothes that are too small for me now, I can bring them to her room and stick them in her closet for her to wear in the future. She usually doesn't like wearing them, but at least I can try haha.
6. Little sisters make you love and care more deeply.
There's no way to describe the kind of love that comes with having a little sister. It involves a feeling of needing to protect her at all times because you don't want to ever see her feeling sad or hurt. Nothing in the world makes me angrier or more frustrated than seeing my sister upset, even if it is something as small as a teammate teasing her at softball practice or a friend not texting her back. Having this type of love for her has made me see the world differently and care for others in a deeper way.
7. Little sisters make you proud every single day.
Not a day passes by that I'm not proud of my little sister. (Okay, not going to lie, maybe that one day every once in a while when we fight may be an exception.) I'm always proud of the person she is becoming and everything she is accomplishing along the way. Although obviously big milestones make me proud, the little daily things make me even prouder.
So Elise, if you're reading this, just know that I'm so honored that I get to call you my little sister, best friend, and partner in crime. Thank you for everything. I miss you so much and I can't wait to see you soon!! I love you.
