Why I Listen To Christian Rap

How many times can we listen to the same thing over and over again?

I love music. Anyone that knows me knows that I love to hear people sing. I can't sing very well myself, but I'll hands down give you backing music for you to sing over. One of my greatest joys is hearing someone sing with the music I'm playing.

So let me start off in saying I don't necessarily have a preference for what kind of music we listen to in the car. You want to listen to country? Great! You want to listen to some pop songs? That's totally fine. You want to listen to opera? I'll be out of the car before the singer can hit their falsetto.

The one day I was jamming to a song with my friend that came on the radio, (I won't mention the name so as so not to offend anyone's taste in music), and we were having a blast. I didn't give the lyrics one thought as I wasn't paying attention to them. Then during the last verse of the song, I took a break in my jamming and started to half-heartedly listen to the lyrics. To tell you the truth, I laughed out loud at the song just because of how appalling it was. I honestly couldn't believe they were playing that on the radio.

One thing that bothers me is that children are most definitely listening to these popular radio stations. The amount of vulgar language they've allowed into radio stations over the past years is actually quite terrifying. I can remember when I was in elementary school and they would bleep out a phrase that was vulgar even if it didn't technically swear. Now, it seems that there are only a few swear words that they will bleep out.

Now, it's not only just the fact of the children hearing it, but think about it. Why do we want to listen to songs where literally every other one talks about the same thing, just worded differently and to a different beat (sometimes). How many times can we listen to songs where all they talk about is either something about sex, drugs, partying, girls, cars, guys, or all of them at once. How many times can we listen to the same thing over and over again? And how many times can we listen to this garbage, honestly? What does any of that stuff mean in the long run?

Many of you are probably thinking how you've heard that numerous times. People who don't like secular music mostly say it's because of the content. They're not wrong.

Just because I'm a Christian doesn't mean I'm going to leave Christian music out of it. Don't get me wrong, all I really listen to is Christian music, specifically, worship music. However, there are certain kinds of songs that I almost get frustrated with. Their messages are filled with hope, but a lot of it is so vague. The struggles are hard to relate to sometimes because they don't give specific ones. I don't think this is bad all the time, as it leaves room for people to worship and pray over their own problems; it's not exclusive. But at some point when I'm just wanting some music to casually listen to, I'm led to my original question. How many times can we listen to the same thing over and over again?

When I just want to have the enjoyment of listening to music, I want something that talks about different things. I want something that I can think about and process in my mind, while also having a good beat to jam to.

And that's why I love Christian Rap. If you have never listened to Christian Rap, it's essentially the same thing as secular rap. And technically they do still talk about the same things, but the difference is, Christian Rap brings light to these things and talks about how worthless they are, and how totally pointless they are.

The best thing about rap overall is how brutally honest it is. It's a form of both poetry and music. Poetry speaks from the heart. Different people relate to different poems. With the Christian Rap I listen to, the rappers will give their testimony. They will talk about their pasts and how they have dealt with addictions related to the very topics secular rap talks about.

Their songs may be somewhat exclusive, but at the same time, they're real. I may not be able to relate with one song, but I can still jam to it, and the next song I may be able to relate to. The fact is, they don't talk about garbage. They talk about stuff that matters. And that's why I listen to Christian Rap.

God bless!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
