If you give me love, I’ll give you love. If you hand me hate, I’ll hand you hate. If you buy me a gift, only will I buy you one too. Only if you text me first, will I text you back.
It seems to be like everything that happens within our culture today is some type of transactional business deal. Unfortunately, that’s the mindset that our generation has grown to cultivate. And, to tell you the truth, it is quite sad.
And although it is sad, I do not refrain from acknowledging that love is a fragile thing. Love hurts just as much as it can bring tremendous joy. Love is painful, especially when you’ve become so ridiculously invested into someone and suddenly, the wall of high expectations that you’ve built is then shattered to pieces.
That’s life and the reality of it all is that as inhabitants of this earth, we must come to terms with these types of things.
But how do you love unconditionally? Why do I choose to love unconditionally, you may ask? Even though I recognize that love can be cruel and people can be extremely spiteful, I know what it feels like to be the one on the other side of the spectrum. I know what it feels like to be the one who cares “too much,” per say. And I know what it feels like to have your heart turn into stone cold.
Conditional type of love is a love that is subject to conditions. It is like a contract that says, “Only if you do this for me, will I then do the same for you.”
An unconditional type of love states the contrary.
It says, “Even if you find nothing beautiful within me, I still find beauty within you.”
It says, “Even if you hurt me a hundred times, I will still let it go and I will be there for you whenever you need me.”
It says, “Even when you’ve forgotten about me and there comes a day when you’re feeling at your absolute lowest, I will still answer that phone call.”
Even when He was backstabbed and criticized by many, He chose to forgive. Even when others called Him malicious names, He chose to genuinely help those same people who then needed Him afterwards.
Will the hurt begin to mold itself into something much more beautiful rather than something much more destructive.
