Why It's So Useless To Argue About Politics

The world today is a very different world than what I remember growing up into. Innocent little me didn't know anything about politics, world government, war...nothing. But was it going on? Yes. And it still is, and unfortunately, it probably will always go on.

There's a lot going on. We have a new president whom is still controversial to most on why he is in office. There are threats of using nuclear weapons against North Korea. We have hate crimes appearing everywhere such as the Charlottesville attack. We have Black Lives Matter and the LGBTQ community definitely speaking loud on their opinions, as well as Trump supporters, the surviving members of Nazi communist followers, and the Ku Klux Klan. Let's not forget this whole 'Alt Left' and 'Alt Right' movement either.

The thing is, although freedom of speech is still a very important thing, it's ultimately what is also causing breakouts of war. These hate groups that think that they are doing a justice by 'eliminating' races or these Democrat vs. Republican arguments bickering over which side is better is doing nothing but causing more turmoil amongst people. Ultimately, there is no use in arguing your opinion in the matter.

I realize that this is a controversial topic. I do, I completely get it and I understand why it's important for me to understand and be up to date with politics since this is the generation that I will someday raise my family in, but for once I'd like to go about my day in harmony and peace (seems like two obsolete words) without having to talk about all of the fighting.

I don't like seeing it on the news. I don't like seeing it on social media. I fear the day where I'll actually watch it happening with my own eyes, and I fear that that day is coming soon. I know that I can't pretend it's not there. I know that I have to face the facts and that is that we are ultimately turning against each other.

The point of this, is to say that although the world is not in its best shape, we should not argue about facts because ultimately, it's our own opinion. Face the facts. Face what's happening. Do we have to be okay with it? No, of course not. But what is blockading the highways going to do? What is blasting racials slurs over the Internet going to do? Sure, you might get people to listen to you, but you might also get extreme backlash.

What's the alternative? Pray about it. Pray for this world, pray for its people, and pray that one day we can live in a world that may have just a little more peace and a little less war.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
