I know most you read the title of this article and immediately thought, "What a Scrooge," but just hear me out. Christmas is my absolute favorite time of the year, and when December hits, I will be blasting Christmas music 24/7 on my radio. But it is barely mid-November and everywhere I turn, I see Christmas decorations, hear Christmas music, and encounter people who just "can't wait" until Christmas. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for the holiday season, but I'm gonna hold off my excitement for a couple more weeks, and here's why.
Christmas seems to be in full swing here in Charleston. King Street has wreaths and bows on every light post, Pottery Barn looks like a Christmas catalog, and I'm even seeing houses with their Christmas lights outside. There's just one problem here: I'm not ready for all of this yet. I haven't always felt this way, trust me. Two years ago, I was just like most of you, celebrating Christmas on November 1. I had one problem, though; Christmas didn't actually feel like Christmas when the time came around. I celebrated for too long. As soon as the decorations hit the stores, I was one of the first to start looking at new ornaments, tinsel, Christmas candles, everything. I think the biggest problem for me was that I put so much excitement into those first few weeks of decorating and then all the excitement faded by the time December hit. I would listen to Christmas music all day, every day until everyone hated me for it, but then by the time Christmas came around, I had heard every Christmas song about 2,843 times (there's only so many songs you can listen to) and no longer wanted it playing.
So here I am now, waiting until after Thanksgiving to get in the true Christmas spirit. Like I said, some of you might hate me for it, but it still gives me a whole month to go crazy with the decorations, music, and of course, the movies. I can tell you that I will spending every single day from Thanksgiving until Christmas watching the cheesy Hallmark movies (you know you love them) and spending my days with ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas with hot chocolate in hand. So maybe it's too early for me to celebrate Christmas, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't start your Christmas season right now, to each his own. Merry (almost) Christmas season, ya filthy animals.
