Everyone faces hardships in their lives. We experience loss, love, tragedy, happiness, sadness and so much more. People face these problems every day, and everyone handles it differently.
Without ups and downs in life, you aren’t really living. From a low of severe depression or a death, to a high, of falling in love or completing a significant milestone, it wouldn’t be life without this constant cycle. You need to experience the bad to cherish and grow in order to experience the good in life.
People often say to themselves, "why me" whenever something doesn't go their way. Which is understandable, because when it's happening to you, your first reaction isn't going to be to try to see the positive side - but let me tell you, you should. Step back and instead of saying "why me" say "I'll get through this, like I got through everything thus far, because I refuse to give up on myself."
As hard as it is to experience heartbreak or tragedy, going through those things make you evolve and mature into someone who doesn’t let something hard knock them down.
Struggling is often associated with being weak. I believe it is the complete opposite. I believe it means you are strong enough to not let any obstacle destroy you. It means you are standing up tall, despite the pain and hardships being thrown at you.
One of my favorite quotes is "Don't let your struggles become you're identity" because it's so common for people to just fall apart and become lifeless and dull because they are so absorbed in their problems and obstacles. If you let it consume you, you will become a walking zombie who is so focused on their problems that they don't even realize anything else is going on around them. Be the type of person who puts forth strength and dignity when dealing with dilemmas and problems, no matter how big or small they might be.
I can't imagine where I would be in life if I didn't experience all my ups and downs. They shaped me into the person I am, who got stronger and more dedicated with every bad turn. With every obstacle I encountered I automatically assumed I couldn't handle it. And then I got through it, like I did the time before and I came out of it with more resilience.
Life overall is a beautiful struggle. It is an uphill battle at times, but other times it is smooth sailing. That's the greatest gift of life: the unknown of what's next.
When there is no struggle there is no strength. So struggle. Show everyone how much fight you have in you and get through it. Because when you do, that’s when you’ll notice that you are at your next high point of the roller coaster called life.
