Everyone has been in a situation that they just didn't understand. I don't understand things that go on in my life every single day. Have you ever sat and thought, or even said out loud, "God, why me?" or "God I don't understand, how could you let this happen?"
Yes, we all have. This is because we are all human and imperfect. We are never going to understand God's plan as it unfolds, and that is okay. You know why? Because we are not supposed to know. If we knew exactly where our life was going, what was going to happen next, how would we see ourselves in relation to God? We, as the imperfect, sinful humans that we are, would make terrible attempts to take our lives into our on hands. This is an act that we often do anyway when we think we know what God has in store for us, when we try and make what we want to happen in our lives, what God has in store for us. How reckless, right? As if we know so much more than Him.
My all-time favorite artist, Jon Bellion, put it best, in my mind, in his song "Maybe IDK". It goes something like this; "Although, I guess if I knew tomorrow, I guess I wouldn't need faith. I guess if I never fell, I guess I wouldn't need grace. I guess if I knew His plans, I guess He wouldn't be God." Wow, right? Isn't that so true?
So as I was saying, we would go about these lives of ours thinking that we had it all figured out and leaning on our own understanding, although this is exactly what we were commanded not to do.
Isaiah 55:8-9 says this, "'For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,' declares the Lord. 'As the heavens are higher than earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."
So as I will say time and time again, it is okay to not understand! It is okay to be hurt and confused, to wonder how God is going to use this to further your testimony and grow you in ways to better glorify Him. It is okay to cry, it is okay to ask God to help you through it. In fact, that is exactly what you should do. This will only open your heart more to His love, and help you to grow closer to Him. All that you need to remember is that God works for the good! This is what we see in Romans 8:28; "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
This will be hard, I cannot tell you it will be easy. I cannot tell you that this will be a short journey or that it will make sense overnight. All that I can tell you is that it will all be worth it. How many times before have you looked back on your life and realized why certain things that caused you pain made a critical contribution to another event in your life to better yourself, your life, or someone around you. How these things built your skills to complete the tasks that God later asked you to do. How God, in fact, gave you every tool you needed to keep going.
"The Lord will fight for you. You need only to be still." Exodus 14:14
