Why It Is A Blessing And Curse Having A Long Distance Best Friend

Why did you have to go to school so far away?

Why It Is A Blessing And Curse Having A Long Distance Best Friend

If anyone knows me, they know my best friend lives 20 hours away from me. The girl who was by my side since high school decided to go to school in Corpus Christi, TX. To be honest, I am so proud of her to have the guts to move to a new city so far away from her family and hometown to where she knew no one, and totally kick ass at it!

1. We always have something to talk about.

What's nice about us not being at the same college and living together, and not in the same town or close enough to see each other daily, is that we each have grown as adults. We can talk daily and always have something new to tell one another. Which is always nice cause I love hearing about your life down there, boo.

2. You can always cheer me up even if it's with a goofy text or a long phone call.

I'm so glad you have an upbeat personality where you are always there to pick me up when I feel down. I'd probably be dead by now if it weren't for you, and your persistence!

3. We call each other just to hear the other's voice because we miss each other.

I love our random hour long phone calls, usually you listening to me driving and bitching about how everyone here sucks at driving, but hey, every minute counts.

4. We have airport reunions like in the movies, cause we are just that cute

I honestly cannot wait until Spring Break until I get my Shannon hug at the airport.

5. Although our times together are shorter than we want, we make the best memories together.

We make the best memories when we are together, and I would not trade that for the world.

6. We celebrate Christmas and our birthdays all in one visit.

We sure know how to cram every holiday celebration in on our visits.

7. We share a love for the same things. Netflix and Wine.

I love our nights of binge watching dramas on Netflix and giggling uncontrollably.

8. You keep a countdown as to when you will see each other next.

I literally see you in one week, and I cannot contain my excitement, I love how our counting down the days has only kept us motivated to make it through midterms to get to see one another.

9. I wouldn't want anyone else as my best friend, you are my person. Forever and always, boo.

You are my real life Christina Yang, and I am your real life Meredith Grey (no pun intended ha!). I would not trade you for anything. You are my better half. And yes, you are half way across the country but I know you are still my person, and always there when I need you to be, and vice versa. I love you, best friend.

Although you are so far from me, I cannot express how truly amazing and awesome you are. I cannot wait to make more memories and adventures with you over spring break and this summer. We always know how to have a good time, and I am glad that we complete one another. I miss you boo, but I am so beyond proud of you for pursuing your passions, and dreams. Someday, we'll be old ladies chasing each other in wheelchairs around the nursing home, and no one will ever tear us apart. No matter what you are my best friend, my sister by friendship.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
