Why Instagram Isn't Overrated

Most people's views on the popular social media app, Instagram, have gotten pretty negative as the app has been around longer and has become more and more popular with younger generations. A lot of the negative associations with Instagram have to do with using the app as a self confidence booster and gauging popularity based upon how many likes a posted picture received. Initially, the app was created to be a forum for picture sharing amongst friends and to be used in a way other than current social media outlets were offering. Instagram is still worth much more than what bashing its been getting... and here's why:

1. It's an entertainment source: Whether you're stalking your favorite celebrity or your least favorite person from high school, you can entertain yourself for hours on end.

2. It's a great outlet to find new trends: Following magazines, fashionistas, or make up artists will keep you in the know 24/7.

3. It can help you save money: By following your favorite stores/brands, you can be the first to know when they're having a sale or even get a promo code exclusive to Instagram followers.

4. It's a great form of research on a person: In the least sketchy way possible, by scrolling through someone's Instagram page, you can immediately get a feel for their taste in just about anything.

5. It's awesome to look back on: Instagram is like your own personal photo album; looking back at your old posts and their comments is like reliving memories.

So before you knock Instagram for all of its flaws and whatnot, remember what good it can do for you~

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
