Once upon a time, social media came about, and all through the land the people magically found things they want in a relationship that they never knew they wanted.
I love the idea of standards in a relationship. No one should settle for less than they deserve, which in unconditional love the way it is told in the Bible.
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self- seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always preserves."
-1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Because of this I believe we have a definition of love, but this isn't "#relationshipgoals".
Relationship goals are spotlighted actions from a boyfriend and girlfriend- keyword spotlight. You don't see the good, the bad and the ugly. You only see matching outfits and expensive gifts. Even if the relationship goals seem honest, like a good morning text or a surprise visit at work, I can't help but think that this damages our sense of relationships.
By the time you see the one good thing out of one relationship, you've compiled a mental list of standards until one day all you're screaming at your boyfriend because he forgot to send one goodnight text.
We all make mistakes and especially in relationships, yet the media has given us so much more to look for than love. Let's be honest girls, can our plans not be put on hold one time because his friends want to go do something far more exciting? Boys, will it honestly kill you if you have to sit through one chick flick?
The point I'm trying to make is that each relationship is different. The only "goal" we need is to be in love. I love the cute romantic gestures as much as the next girl, but I don't want my love to be clouded by the fact that a boy forgot to stop by the store to get flowers.
Love is so much more than gifts. Love is so much more that paragraph texts. Don't let the media decide if your relationship is good or bad.
