The intensity of the 2016 Presidential race has never been greater, with only five candidates left between both parties and state voting turnouts continuously surpassing all expectations. Yet, despite the youth vote being at an all-time high, I’m disappointed by the appallingly small percentage of the millennial vote going to Hillary Clinton. While Donald Trump has miraculously been convincing this country he’s going to solve all of America’s problems by building a wall (despite it being proven implausible), and Bernie Sanders has practically shoved the false promise of free college education down all our throats, Hillary Clinton has been making change, solving real-world issues, and fulfilling promises for over half of her lifetime, never ceasing to prove that she is the most qualified candidate to take the White House this upcoming November.
She has the experience: Over the course of her time as First Lady of Arkansas, New York Senator, First lady of the United States, and Secretary of State, Hillary has spent over three decades in the political world, her accomplishments simply serving as a small glimpse of the immense impact she’s made on this country. She initiated the Congress Children’s Health Insurance Program, providing health care to millions of children, stabilized relations with Cuba, secured nearly $21 billion dollars to help restore New York after the calamity of 9/11, negotiated the cease-fire in Gaza that prevented Hamas from attacking Israel, created the Adoption and Safe Families Act, bringing support to adoptive families and boosting the adoption of special needs children, and not to mention, she played a significant role in capturing Osama Bin Laden. There should be no doubt that she is fit to run this country. You can take a seat, Carly Fiorina.
She’s not a one-issue candidate: During Democratic debates, I like to play a little game called Count How-Many-Times-You-Can-Guess-What-Bernie-Sanders-Will-Say-Before-He-Says-It, precisely because he is always reiterating the same chant: The economy is rigged! We need to dismantle the banks! Make public colleges tuition-free! One-tenth of one percent of the American population has the most money! His mantras are thrilling, and sure, his economic strategies might possibly manifest themselves in Narnia, but they’re simply not feasible in the White House, and it’s certainly not the only issue facing the country. Hillary Clinton has proven she’ll take the issues facing the economy in an effective, practical way, whether that’s through cutting taxes for small business owners, or by legislating immigration reform, but unlike Sanders, she doesn’t stop there. In addition to the effort she’ll put into creating a secure economy, Hillary is calling for first-rate education for all, fighting against racial prejudice, defending social security and strengthening Medicare, and advocating rights for the LGBTAQ+ community, just a few among her abundant policies and promises for a better future.
She’ll stand up for women’s rights: There’s no discrediting what the Obama Administration has done for women over the last eight years, but there will never truly be someone who fights for women better than a fellow woman. Hillary infamously asserted “Human rights are women’s rights and women’s rights are human rights” at Beijing’s Fourth Women’s Conference back in ’95, and she’s been continuing the fight for justice for women ever since. During her position as Secretary of State and Senator from New York, she backed the Paycheck Fairness Act to help guarantee equal pay for women, initiated paid maternity leave for all working mothers, publicly addressed the U.N. in an effort to find a resolution against sexual assault, and has adamantly supported the work that Planned Parenthood has done for millions of women. Nobody has fought for women more than Hillary Clinton has, and her dedication to gender equality will only continue to grow stronger, not if, but when she's President.
It's time this country sees what real change looks like. #Hillary2016
