Facing challenges in the name of self-improvement is a very important thing in life. Without coming across any tough situations, it is difficult to know how to better oneself. With that being said, I have truly discovered a way that I want to improve myself as I head back to college in just a matter of days. It is in a way that I have attempted to do in the past, but never consistently; it is in a way that has already started to make a positive impact on me, mentally and physically. The “way” I am referring to is getting into a consistent workout and nutritional routine.
I’ll be the first to admit that working out a lot and eating healthy at the same time can be a huge struggle. As a college student, even during the summer, my schedule can get so busy that I can lose sight of exercising. Also, as a college student, consistent healthy eating can be somewhat difficult to come across, especially when cheap food is generally not the most nutritious food out there.
But I have discovered that when you combine working out and eating right, wonderful things start happening, especially from a mental standpoint. I have started to feel more energized throughout my days, which can be long due to a 40-hour work week at summer camp. My new routine is simple: I wake up at 6:00 AM, eat a healthy breakfast (usually some eggs or fruit), exercise at the recreation center I work at, shower, and go to work. This type of structure gives me a sense of purpose that propels me throughout the day. The thought of going into work already accomplishing an intense day of arms or legs is an amazing thought to have. By eliminating most of the sugar and sodium from my diet, I feel more refreshed and ready to attack the day’s challenges. And that’s not all there is to it.
The time I spend in the morning working out is a way to channel my energy into something I have had set on my mind for a few weeks now. I realize I was not blessed with the biggest body frame or the easiest ability to build muscle. I am tired of looking in the mirror and seeing no progress being made on my physique, which is why I have made it a goal to gain six-pack abdominals and toned muscles throughout my body. I want to do this for myself because I want to be able to look at myself and conclude that I transformed something about myself through demanding work and dedication. I am going to achieve this goal through having a planned workout routine and eating the proteins and carbohydrates to help let the muscles show. I’m documenting this so I do not back out from what I hope to achieve. There is no going back.
I believe that every person needs to be passionate about something. Passion is what drives us to do great things in life. All I know right now is that I have the drive to improve myself through steps that will test my patience, willpower, and dedication to a goal. But I believe I can do it.
