I have been in a relationship for almost two years and this Valentine's Day will mark the second one that I will reluctantly have to celebrate. That is not saying that I do not love my girlfriend, but the way that I see it is that I don't have to prove to my girl, one day of the year, how much I love and care for her. For that reason, I will not be celebrating Valentine's Day at all. Instead, I will continue to do what I have always done for my other half, and that is not changing a single thing that I have done from the very beginning.
I just do not understand why people go overboard for this one day. They buy big boxes of chocolate, giant Valentine's Day cards, lots of gifts, and expensive dinners, but this is only done once out of the year. Why are the other 364 days omitted? I am not trying to be like Bobby Buche's mother and say, " Valentine's Day is the devil." I am trying to say that if you really love that special person, then you really would not need one day to show off how much money you can spend in a day.
When Valentine's Day rolls around, you will not see me go overboard with the gifts, but you will see me enjoy the company of my other half and ensure that she will always know, regardless of the day, I will make every day as if it is Valentine's Day. Now, for all the others whose significant other will not buy into anything about not celebrating Valentine's Day, I wish you the best of luck and hope your pockets will not suffer from the Valentine's Day blues.
