Everyone is always grateful for the people in their life. Most of us have so many different people that play such a huge role in our life and impact it greatly. Parents, teachers, siblings, cousins the list goes on. These people are always there for you, whether it’s during the good or the bad. There is someone in particular that has been around just a little bit longer than everyone else. Maybe a bigger fan of you than your own parents? That would be Grandma. You know that saying about a “Mother knows best”? What about the mother’s mother? She knows best of all. Grandma knows that you are never full enough, rich enough, and that you are never comforted enough.
I have always heard what a blessing it is to be a grandmother or how amazing it is to have grandkids. While I’m sure that is true, being a granddaughter is just as special. I could not imagine how my life would be if I didn’t get the chance to grow up with two amazing grandmas. Three if you include my great grandma, and five if you include my two step-grandmas. I’m one lucky granddaughter right? I will openly admit that my grandmas were my first best friends and they still are today.
I always have and still do love going over to my grandmas house. Whether it just for a quick visit or for a sleep over. Regardless if you like going to grandmas or not, we all know that most of the time we will need to be rolled out of the house after the food coma we were just put in. But is it really that bad since all of the food you ate was to die for? I can guarantee that all of us at one time or another have said “My grandma makes the best…”, and I am sure you are 100% right. For whatever reason grandmas just know how to cook. We can all spend hours watching her cook and basically work magic in the kitchen. As we chit chat and sneak nibbles when she isn’t looking.
Grandmas are always on our side. Regardless if we are fighting with our parents, low on cash, or got into some trouble. They always have our back. Along with being loyal to us, they have the biggest hearts. Grandmas show us unconditional love and no matter what we may do, they will never stop loving us. Sorry for all of the fits I threw, back talk I said, and feelings I hurt while I was growing up. But you knew that wasn’t going to last forever (at least I hope not). I know that whatever is going on, I have someone who will always be proud of me and never turn away from me.
Grandmothers all have very beautiful names; Mary, Catherine, Lola, Margaret, Trudy, Judy, they are always such beautiful names. However, the names their grandchildren give them are beautiful in a whole other sense. Meme, Mame, Dede, Nana, Momo, ah the creativity of grandchildren is always hilarious and pure. Just another thing that makes grandmas that much greater.
Everyone owes their grandmas a big thank you for being the amazing women that they are. They go above and beyond to make sure their grandchildren are okay. Both grandmas and granddaughters are growing old which makes it easy to forget to make time for each other. So show your grandma a little extra love the next time you see her, or call her out of the blue. It will make her day, I promise.
XoXo,
