You know sometimes we love our small school, and sometimes we don't. Going to a small school has its ups and downs, sometimes being both the best and worst thing ever.
1. You see everyone on campus, maybe not once, nor twice, but three times a day.
Best: This is amazing because you see your friends constantly!
Worst: This is awful because if you're in a fight with someone or trying to avoid someone, you still see them all the time.
2. You literally know anything and everything about everyone.
Best: You know all the drama and who not to associate with, who not to have a crush on.
Worst: Everyone knows everything about you, your friends, and if you kissed a boy last night at the bar. Seriously. Your professor probably just heard about it in her class.
3. Nobody knows where or what your school is
Best: You aren't on the list of "amazing schools", nor are you on that list of "no name schools," people just don't know where Pace is.
Worst: Trying to explain where Pace is to people, trying to make it seem like an amazing school, but at the same time not a bad one either.
4. Every good thing you do, the entire school knows about it--even the dining hall workers.
Best: You get praised for doing something good and it makes you feel awesome.
Worst: You don't like the attention and didn't know TMZ was probably going to interview you about doing something also?
5. You get excited for an athletic event, but then see your friends Instagrams, Tweets, Facebook posts about their even bigger athletic events .
Best: You still get to have athletic events to go to.
Worst: You think you're having an amazing time until you see your friends at big schools go to tailgates, day longs, and you sit and wonder what you did wrong in life.
6. "You're a name, not a number"
Best: People know my name. I actually matter.
Worst: Why did this random person just say hi to me.. do I know you?
7. Your professors know when you miss class
Best: It makes me want to go to class so that my professors don't know I skipped.
Worst: I want to skip class and now my professor knows that I did it because he knows my name and probably my entire life story too.
The small school aspect might be rough, but it's also something that- if you don't go to a small school- you'll never understand it.
I love my athletic teams even if we don't qualify. I love my sororities even if we don't have many on campus. I love my professors even though they act like my friends and know more about me then my family probably does. I love my dining hall workers because they remember that I stole an apple once a year ago and remember my face...
It's not that bad, and when you get that one minute of fame for getting ranked on some sort of national TV show, website or newspaper, you finally feel special, because yes you do go there and yes your school does exist.
