Fashion Week is quickly coming to an end. For those of you who do not know, fashion month is a month of New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week, and Paris Fashion Week (in that order as well). It happens twice a year in the months of February and September. February showcases designers fall and winter looks for the upcoming seasons, while September shows the spring and summer designs for the upcoming season. For fashion lovers, it is Christmas, that lasts a month.
With being a fashion enthusiast myself, love fashion week. I keep up with it on social media, the websites, and apps that are dedicated to the fashion week. During this fashion month, being older, I realized something about the fashion shows and designers. Most people have already thought it and I have to an extent, but what I really saw this month, is how the designs and layouts for the shows are really art. It is a different kind of art for sure, it is not hanging on a wall, it is moving and very hands on.
One aspect of fashion week is the runway and setting the designer has for the show. It normally has a theme and matches the clothes to an extent. This year Dior for its September 2016 show, debuted its new creative director. His show was different than the last few of Dior, it was minimalistic and simple. The seats and runway resembled wood on different layers. It was then that it reminded me of a sculpture or setting you would see in an art gallery.
I then began thinking about the clothes. There's so much detail that comes to the designs. There is the structure, fabric, and articulate details that separate each designer from the other. Much like painters or sculptures. The process of the designs being made is pretty inspiring as well. The designers have to have a vision, a mission, what do they want to get across to the people who will be wearing and seeing these outfits. What makes it all so unique, is each designer has their own look, their own theme and it is distinctive to everyone that follows fashion.
For the lovers of the arts, if you are looking for a new thing to follow or to fall in love with, look at fashion. Follow designers, companies, and fashion weeks — each has so many social media accounts, websites, etc. If you are someone who is looking for a new way to express yourself, consider fashion design. There truly is something magical about seeing the designs and how beautiful they are. Fashion truly is one of the best ways to express yourself. Paris fashion week is still going on, Chanel (who has one of the best shows every time) has yet to have their show. Tune in and see what I'm talking about in this article.
