There are many different "seasons" that a calendar year can be broken down into such as fall, spring, summer, winter, different sports seasons, "Christmas season", etc. However, coming up is one of my favorite seasons, particularly because of the sport typically associated with it. . . fall and football. Here are some of the top reasons why I enjoy fall and football season!
1. The colors of the leaves.
As the weather starts cooling, one of the first signs is the changing colors of the leaves. The various shades of red, oranges, yellows and greens make the scenery even more beautiful than it usually is.
2. Time to break out the sweaters, scarves and boots!
Again, cooler weather means time to start bundling up. However, it's still warm enough wear you can wear all your cute sweaters and scarves without having to bundle up underneath a bulky jacket. And of course, fall weather means boots, boots, and more boots. Boots are my shoe addiction and I have too many pairs to count. . . sorry Dad.
3. Football...need I say more.
From Friday night lights, to college football weekends and the NFL and Monday night football, there is enough football to go around for everyone. Nothing beats playing/cheering under the Friday night lights, and now cheering for college Satuday afternoons. Dressing up in your teams colors and rooting them on are the best bonding expereince.
4. Hot chocolate
Another favorite part of cooler weather is the hot beverages that break out. For those coffee/Starbucks lovers, they look forward to their pumpkin spice lattes. But my personal warm beverage is hot chocolate. My family knows my love for hot chocolate and I actually had to buy a water boiler so I can make all kinds of hot chocolate this fall/winter.
5. Hay rides
Tractors and hay rides around a farm or trail is essential. Nothing really says fall than grabbing friends and heading to a farm to go sit on some hay and ride around in a tractor.
6. Pumpkin/apple picking
Also at a farm, you can usually do some apple or pumpkin picking for other yummy fall treats. Pumpkins are also an essential key for Halloween. Again, getting together with a bunch of friends and heading out to a farm is a fun bonding experience and makes for fantastic memories.
7. Corn mazes
One final and fun activity at a farm is corn mazes. Getting lost in a field of corn cut into random patterns seems strangs but is also oddly fun. And of course, attending an agricultural school, having a corn maze is a must.
8. Halloween/Haunted Houses
One of the two biggest holidays in the fall is Halloween. . . yet another weird holiday. It has become popular for children to dress up as different characters and parade around their neighborhoods asking for candy. Yet, it's one of those holidays that people either love or hate. And along with Halloween, a common adventure for those daring to are haunted houses. I used to have a person in my neighborhood who converted their garage into a haunted house and had different people dress up and scare everyone as they walked through. And it was pretty impressive for a neighborhood haunted house proven by the ever growing line outside their house.
9. Bonfires
Cuddling up next to a fire is always fantastic. However, bonfires in summer are hard because it's so buggy and no one enjoys getting eaten alive. And you can't sit outside in the middle of winter around a bonfire without freezing your butt off. . . that's why we have fireplaces. But in fall it's cool enough to want to build a fire and you won't get eaten alive, and warm enough that you won't have to bundle up.
10. Thanksgiving
The next best holiday in fall is Thanksgiving . . . a day where we give thanks, then stuff our faces with foods, watch endless hours of football (and maybe even play some), and sleep for hours on end from too much turkey. Plus you can't forget the Macy's day parade on Thanksgiving morning.
11. Hockey
And lastly, with fall comes the beginning of hockey season. It's one of the best sports to watch and root on. The rivalries and dedication to your team is like none other. With a new hockey season, comes a new journey for the coveted Stanley Cup! (Let's go Pens!)
