In a world where a phone is the epitome of our existence, there is no explanation of how vital a vacation from this technological reliant society truly is. Vacations with friends to a lake or beach house is always fun. Get away from town and go hang with your buddies, maybe even get a couple fun nights out of it. Vacations with your family are so very different, and yet, so much more special.
Now, first things first, nobody ever says they want to go on a family vacation. In fact, unless you are least 50 years old, you do not say you are looking forward to a family vacation. However, in the back of that Facebook- and Instagram-controlled mind, everyone is always excited for a family vacation.
This past week, the revelation of all these facts have been brought back to the epicenter of my mind where I can now express how necessary these vacations are. First, nothing in this blue and green sphere we call Earth is more important than family. I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but I do know that family is the most important thing, no matter what. I have been blessed with parents who share the same insight when it comes to family. Yes, my mother asks me way too many questions. Actually, she asks me an inhumane amount of questions. Not only does this slow down on vacation, it completely stops. I am not sure a guy my age knows the earth-shattering feeling to not get asked questions by their mother every time you see her, but it is amazing. I am so grateful to have such an amazing mother like her, and I'm lucky she puts up with all my bullshit.
As for my father, the guy is an absolute legend. From providing nearly every single thing I have ever possessed to organizing these foolish family vacations, I can't even express how much this guy means to me. My brother and sister tie the whole family together. Not only have I shared a room with my brother since I was born, he is also my best friend. Someone who I can call for advice in anything. From calling him about school to calling about the police (sorry, Mom) he has been there every step of the way, and I can't wait to organize family vacations with our own families someday. Yes, even my sister will be involved in these vacations as well. She is the smartest person I will ever know, and I am sure she will let me hold onto her coat tails as she drags me with her through her endless success. Although all she does is watch YouTube clips and Netflix in her pajamas, her smile full of braces and fun attitude is something I try to always project, minus the braces.
I started this article talking about why family vacations are so important, and this is my answer. I recognize all these amazing things about my family that I never would have known unless I unhappily drove to Rockport one week each year. If I have any advice to the few people who read this article it is this: talk to your family and spend a week with them, you will be more happy in that week then you ever will be. The simple reason being that you are around people that love you no matter what.
