Ellen DeGeneres may very well be the Mother Theresa of the millennial generation. She gives and gives until she makes us cry, whether that be to deserving but under appreciated teachers, families without the means to make their car payments or put food on the table, or children that face odds not in their favor. She partners with major corporations, like Shutterfly and Walgreens (whose generosity should also not go unnoticed) that allow her to give beyond her own means.
Ellen DeGeneres holds a special place in the hearts of millennials. Recently, Ellen won a couple of awards at the People's Choice Awards, namely Favorite Talk Show Host and Favorite Humanitarian. Her response to this win, following a large standing O, was naturally funny in which she took an interesting approach which can be watched here:
Here's a few of my favorites moments in which Ellen advises us to live by:
"I set out to make people happy and to make people laugh...I certainly didn't set out to win [awards]."
Ellen reminds us that not everything is about winning. In fact, most things aren't. But if you can do something that brightens the day of another, you've done more than any award could ever give you.
"It's a little strange to get an award for being nice and generous and kind...which is what we're all supposed to do with one another. That's the point of being a human."
Ellen acknowledges that the evils of the world are not inherent. But instead, we as people can decide to be kind to one another.
"'What if there was no such thing as love just proof of love?' I don't know if it was from the Bible or an Instagram, but it was really powerful...my wish is that we all try [to love one another]."
Ellen has us laughing out loud at her reference to a fabulous quote that proves her emphasis on the importance of kindness can come through small acts each and every day.
There you have it, reason #94580928 we love Ellen DeGeneres. So keep on keeping on, Ellen. You rock. Seriously, never change.
