Unconditional No String Attached Love

Why Dogs Matter
Jalyn Cox

Dogs are our little angels of the earth. For the people who are not "dog people", I just do not understand. They are loyal and just plain old happy at your existence. Now every dog is something special, but here I'll talk about my furry friend. His name is Jett, and my family sometimes calls him Jedediah. There are all those sayings out there like "there are no bad dogs there are just bad owners", and some would say Jett basically ate that whole principle. Literally, he ate it. Also before, I continue with this story, Jett is not a bad dog, just a big appetite and little trust for anyone outside of my immediate family. When Jett was a puppy he'd eat everything on sight including toys, and well while some would say you have to watch your dog it was basically impossible to drag things out of his little puppy mouth all the time. He ate a whole softball, and if you've ever actually held a softball you'd know it really isn't that soft.

However, that was puppy Jett. The Jett who ate everything, but now he's grown up. Sometimes I think he's the only one who loves me completely and utterly unconditionally. I don't have to do anything for him to love me, it doesn't matter the mistakes I have made. He loves me because I am his person.

Many do not understand how I love him so much because he actually is a crazy dog, my mom sometimes calls him schizo which may be a little offensive, but sometimes he goes crazy on people. But it's only to protect his pack, his family, my family. I remember one time I heard the garage door open when my whole family was suppose to be at a performance. And my big old Jedediah jumped up and we went to the room where we heard rummaging together; he jumped to my rescue. Even though it turned out to be my dad, and after Jett's initial response to dismember him, he returned to wagging his tail and so hard he could barely walk from happiness from seeing a family member. All dogs are good. All dogs are honestly a gift to the world. My dog is a gift to the world. Your dog is a gift to the world. They create memories in your life. Happy memories. Even when I walk Jett through the neighborhood and he barks at every single man who walks by (barks like he means to kill), he is a sweetheart and he's just trying to protect his kin.

The thing about dogs is that their loyalty is greater than anything, and for what? You can kid yourself into saying "oh it's because we feed them". No. No. They love us because there is some deeper connection amongst them. No matter the good or bad you do in the world, they have a love for you thats unreal. A love so strong that one should attempt to love them back with.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
