You roll over in the morning, and your big ball of fluff is staring you in the face. If this were a human boy, this would be uncomfortable. Your dog has been waiting all morning for the slightest sign of consciousness from you, and now he is going to lick your face because he is SO happy you are awake! This also would be weird coming from a boy.
Throughout the night, sleeping with another human can get really annoying. They can steal the blanket, leaving you to fend for yourself in the splintering cold of the night. When you sleep with your dog, they keep you warm. They snuggle next to you all night and remind you someone loves you! Although your dog may sleep on top of the blankets or take up a large chunk of the bed, remember: you are the boss. You can tell your dog to move over or gently tug the covers so he moves. He will take the hint. Your bed is your territory, and he knows that.
Another horrible incident while sleeping with another person — they can be a flailer or turn into karate kid in their sleep. One second you are sleeping and the next second you are nursing your newest bruise from the enemy in your bed. The entire night, you are playing defense against a wrestler who has no idea that they are causing bruising. With a dog, you never have to worry about this. Dogs are generally light sleepers, and if they fall asleep on top of you, you can gently move them or push them off. Again, remember that you are the boss of your bed, and your dog is lucky you let him come up there with you.
Snoring ... no one likes sleeping with someone that snores. As much as you may want to forcefully stick a pillow over someone’s face as they are snoring, there is not much you can do. You can wake them, tell them to shut up, and then they will just return back to their loud, snore-ful sleep. Most dogs will not snore when they sleep with you. Some dogs may yelp or bark a little when they are dreaming, but dog snoring is way better than human snoring. Worst comes to worst, you can make your dog go sleep somewhere else. Kicking a person out of your bed is usually frowned upon.
The best part of having a dog be your cuddle buddy for the night is that they always know how you are feeling. If you are sick, sad or really tired, they can take a hint and adjust. If you are sick, they will comfort you and snuggle to make you feel better. When you are sad, your dog will plop his face on your chest and remind you he loves you. There is a reason they bring dogs in during finals — they make everyone generally happier people.
Dogs will always love you unconditionally, and unfortunately, most humans will not. Go cuddle with your pup today.
