Last week, an Indian TV actress named Pratyusha Banerjee committed suicide. I may not have seen any of her shows, but still I felt extremely hurt by the fact that people see suicide as a solution to their problems.

Her case reminds me of famous Indian models and actresses Nafisa Joseph, Kuljeet Randhawa and Jiah Khan. All three of them had such amazing things going on in their lives. All three of them had a satisfying career. But all three of them ended their lives. Nafisa and Jiah's suicides were attributed to boyfriend problems. It is speculated that Kuljeet too ended her life for the same reason.

Coming back to Pratyusha Banerjee. We might not know the real reason, although it is speculated that her boyfriend troubled her. Her suicide made me realize why people give up on their lives.

The main reason is this thing called the media. Being a celebrity is not easy! The media will keep trying to get into your life, create rumors to ruin your life. Even after she committed suicide, the media only mocked her. They kept on trying to speculate on her life.

All those celebs who were her friends—were they really her friends? Leaking a recording of her mother crying, trying to look all good in front of the media, doing things for publicity: is that really friendship? If you really cared for her, then you wouldn't have let her take this extreme step.

Going through depression or anxiety is a serious issue. It is not a joke. If your friend or a loved one is going through something difficult, please go and support them. Try to help them as much as possible. Try to be the person they could count on. Show them that there are no worries in life. I believe that with love and support, we can stop all of these people from committing suicide.

For people who are going through depression, who feel like ending their lives, remember, life is beautiful. There are going to be ups and downs: if your lover dumps you, you could always get another. Suppose your friends leave you, it will take time, but eventually, you will find out who your true friends are. Instead of thinking you are hopeless, think about all of the wonderful things you could do. Think about your career and talent. Think about what you could give to the world. Think about your family, who love and care for you. But please understand that committing suicide will do nothing; it will only make things worse for everyone. It will bring nothing but sorrow.

Life gives you a lot of lessons. Each lesson helps you to be a better person. With life, you can bring a lot of happiness. There are a lot of solutions for all problems.

Let's all try to be kinder.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
