Why Colorado Sucks in the Spring

Those two weeks during March and April

Why Colorado Sucks in the Spring

Dictionary Definition of "Colorado Springtime": the 2 weeks during March and April in which the snow sucks a little less and the trees and flowers start growing before the frost of April kills everything again

1) It's too colorful

After the cold white snows of winter release their grasp on the state, we Coloradans are blinded by the colors that begin to pop up all around us from under the blanket of snow. This blinding change causes traffic on highways as tourists stop to take this chance to snap pictures of this rainbow of colors and the animals that come out to feed on them. It's just a deer, I promise it's not that amazing and its the same as the one you took a picture of 6 miles back there.

2) People are too happy

As Spring appears, the mood of the population of Colorado lifts and suddenly everyone is smiling. It's like a contagious disease that effects everyone and makes it very hard to be grouchy. The dark and dreary days of winter that kept us indoors and anti-social are behind us.

3) The geese don't go away and the rabbits are back

The goose epidemic that Colorado seems to have reaches an all time high during out couple weeks of spring. The warmer weather they came here to find is finally here and somehow it is like a homing beacon telling them to come to Colorado. As much fun as wading through goose poop is we'd really appreciate it if these angry flying rats would go back to Canada already.

The rabbits also start to hop their way out and begin to reproduce like... well...rabbits. The rabbit army will begin to rise up again and the scenic bunny roadkill will once again be a staple on highways everywhere.

4) All the healthy fruits and veggies come back into season- bye bye chocolate

Pineapple, apricots, artichokes, asparagus, broccoli, limes, mango, spinach- they are all back just in time to make us feel bad about skipping this fresh "in season" food for the chocolate we crave. Spring salads and "just in time for summer" juice cleanses are upon us. Don't you just know that that one Facebook friend will post updates every day about her "spring detox" and you'll be roped into reading every single one of them while eating your pizza and pretending that reading about it is the same as doing it.

5) Just when you thought the snow was gone it comes right back again

Don't pull out those shorts and flip flops just yet. Give it a couple of weeks and we will have our annual April snowstorm to mess with any warm weather plans and send us running back to our snow boots and warm coats. Wait until May and then maybe try again.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead.
