11 Reasons Why College Is Way Cooler Than High School

It’s safe to say that everyone has their own memories from high school. For some, it was the best four years of their life. These are the people who met all of their very close friends in high school, played every sport and were on the honor role. For others, high school sucked. These people never really found their friend group and felt alienated from practically everything. For the rest (me), high school was just okay. I can definitely say I’ve met a few of my best friends and enjoyed being part of some clubs. However, I never felt a strong connection to anyone or anything in those long four years. Being in college has completely changed my outlook on friendships, education and life in general. I love it! Here are some of the reasons why college is way cooler than high school.

1. People Don’t Judge

This is probably the biggest one. My high school was all about the image. Being in college has allowed me to do whatever I want and not feel ashamed or weird.

2. Clubs, Clubs, Clubs!

There were some good clubs in high school for sure, but nothing like what they offer in college. If you are interested in anything at all, they probably have a club for it!

3. True best friends

I’m incredibly grateful for the awesome friendships I formed in high school, but the friends I’ve made so far in college are amazing. I know that these are the people that will be in my life forever.

4. Getting away

Living in my small hometown for so many years got boring. The same faces, streets and routine got dull for me. Being able to branch out to a bigger city like Milwaukee made me find out more about what I love.

5. Teachers

Professors are willing to help you explore exactly what you want to do with your life. Although they are busy, they are incredibly happy to invest some of their time into you.

6. Independence

Moving out on your own, making your own decisions and choosing your own path are the scariest yet most fulfilling things. Relying on and being completely accountable for myself has been such a motivational factor.

7. Diversity

High school was a bubble. Everyone was the same. Being in a bigger community in college has allowed me to come in contact with different people whether it be in looks, culture or beliefs.

8. Opportunities

I am a journalism and advertising major and college in the city of Milwaukee has so much to offer. There is an abundance of internships and career opportunities. None that I could have gotten in high school.

9. Rewards

It feels great to take classes you’re actually interested in. However, college work is much more complex than high school. You put in much more effort and many more hours, trust me. Working hard pays off when you see that A on your transcript.

10. Less drama

Drama will always be a part of life. People seem to be a little more mature in college and avoid the unnecessary “high school” drama.

11. More naps!

I had to include this one. You nap right after you wake up, in between classes, after classes are done for the day. You nap in your bed, in your roommates bed, in the lounge, anywhere you can. Basically, naps are very essential in college.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
