I’m currently writing this on a comfy couch in a heavenly smelling room with a delightful drink on the table beside me. I have taken refuge from my summer class and the hot sun in a local coffee shop. People are strewn amongst the variety of chairs and tables, their faces buried in laptops and books, sipping beverages and enjoying their lunches. There’s an unlimited supply of caffeine, free Wi-Fi, and a selection of delectable sandwiches and pastries. There’s also an indescribable air of productivity mingled with peacefulness. People are here to work, but also to enjoy themselves. It’s one of the only places where these two actions are intertwined.
I decided to seek inspiration here, which has lead me to the following conclusion: coffee shops are the best location for whatever you are looking for. They are incredibly versatile, and simply walking through the door can improve your day drastically.
If you’re bored, they have fascinating people watching. There’s a man taking his young son out to lunch, old friends reuniting and rudely chastising the barista, couples enjoying a quick lunch break together and a plethora of individuals oblivious to the world past their book or computer screen. There are all sorts of characters who would not normally interact, but coffee shops bring them together to create a diverse blend of characters.
The environment of a coffee shop makes you feel incredibly important, which is perfect if you need to get something done. Whether it’s a report, reading a book or finishing an assignment, it’s easy to pump it out surrounded by the naturally peaceful ambiance. Coffee shops have a good balance, as it’s very motivating to see others at work, but there is also a lack of pressure that would be present elsewhere.
If you just want to relax, there are an almost infinite amount of comfortable spots available to you within a coffee shop. All you have to do is walk in and let your senses absorb the aroma and taste of freshly brewed coffee, as well as the background noises of quiet discussions. You are sure to calm down as you are enveloped by the serene atmosphere.
Coffee shops are also the perfect place to spend time with someone. Whether it’s for a best friend breakfast run or an adorable lunch date, the location is ideal for sitting down with someone you care about. Coffee shops set the mood for meaningful discussions that can help you get to know someone that much better.
As I wrap this up, my drink consists mostly of melted ice and my computer battery has been drastically drained. The people that initially surrounded me have been replaced with a new round of customers, each different from the last. I feel accomplished, as I have spent my time here simultaneously being productive and enjoying myself immensely.
