What Does Your Favorite Study Spot Say About You?

When it is time to buckle down and get some serious work done, we all have our preferred spots to spend hours slaving away in front of our books and computers. Your study spot says a lot about you and what kind of person you are; well not that much, but here are my interpretations of what your study spot says about you.

The Library (alone)

You like to work in silence with no distractions. You are the type of person that stares someone down if they start to whisper to their friend at the table next to you until they stop talking. You only like doing work in the library because any place else just doesn’t make you feel productive at all.

The Library (with a friend)

You like to say you spent hours at the library because it makes you feel really productive, but in reality, you and the friend you brought with you just scrolled through Twitter and took videos of each other for your Snapchat story. You do eventually get your work done, but it takes you about four times as long as it should have in the first place.

The Student Union

You enjoy being able to have ways to distract yourself from your work briefly when it gets to be too boring to handle. You like the possibility of running into someone you know and making them sit with you while you type away on your computer. You also don’t mind the fact that there are places to grab a mid-study session snack.

A Coffee Shop

Studying in silence actually distracts you more than studying with noise. You probably put in earbuds once you get there, but the extra background noise doesn’t bother your either. You discovered this study spot one day while you were picking up coffee on your way to the library, but then got too lazy to walk to the library so you just decided to stay there.

Outside

You believe that the fresh air helps your brain work better and you get tired of sitting indoors for class all of the time. You own an ENO that you like to set up after class to do your reading or a blanket to lay out on the lawn to work on. You definitely come prepared for whatever way you choose to do your assignments outdoors. You also enjoy looking outdoorsy to fellow students and getting some sun at the same time.

In your dorm/room

You are either really serious about getting everything on your to do list checked off without anyone bothering you, or your just really don’t feel like leaving the comfort of your own bed. You like having your own space and don’t like to waste time looking for a seat in the library or in the student union, and you like that your desk/bed is always there just for you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
