Why Christmas Was Better In Middle School

We're all thinking it and guess what: it's true.

Why Christmas Was Better In Middle School

It's almost everyone's most favorite time of the year....WINTER BREAK! But in order to get the earned prize that is a month of no classes, we must first conquer finals week. I don't know about you but this time of the year was always more fun when I was a sixth grader. There are more than a few reasons why.

First of all:

1. NO FINALS WEEK

Who has time to be in the holiday spirit when you're on your third all-nighter?

2. In-class holiday parties

Let's go back to the days of planning which oreos to buy for your class of 20-something instead of planning which classes to study for knowing you'll be in a lecture hall of over 200.

3. St. Nick's Day

Uh, where am I supposed to leave my shoes in a dorm? In the hallway? Might as well say adios,
shoes.

4. Eating a ton of candy guilt-free

Now if I sit on my couch and eat a whole bag of Hershey's candy cane kisses I only feel regret and eight pounds heavier.

5. That night-before christmas feeling

Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas. But it's a tad different without that butterfly feeling that won't let you fall asleep on Christmas eve.

6. Making homemade presents/ornaments

Now I empty out my nonexistent bank account during this time when eight years ago I was making clay mugs on top of clay mugs.

7. Advent Calendars

Instead of getting a chocolate every day until Christmas, I'm losing a part of my soul every day until finals are over.

8. "Ugly Christmas Sweater" Day

When I wear my favorite christmas sweater on the last day of classes, I'm just that annoying girl whose sweater keeps jingling every five seconds.

9. You actually had a Christmas list

Now you just have to find a nice way to tell your family "I just need money."

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
