OK, normally I'm not one to complain about these kinds of things, but this is getting ridiculous. My question to the universe is this: Why can't people be hygienic? Would it kill you to take five extra seconds to clean up after yourself? Let me go into some specifics.
Bathrooms — Flush the damn toilet.
Why the hell is this so difficult for people to do? I don't know how many times in a week I walk into a bathroom stall and the toilet is either filled with someone's business or stuffed with toilet paper. Why? Explain this nonsense to me. Do you people really think that the rest of the world wants to see the remainders of whatever you ate? Well in case you haven't figured it out yet, I'll give you a big hint. We don't. Something as simple as pulling a lever to flush away all of your muck is too hard for you? It's not like you have to physically flush all of it down the toilet. You pull a lever or press a button and it all goes away unless you happen to be someone who manages to clog the near un-cloggable toilet. Yes, I said un-cloggable.
Sinks
Perhaps as bad, if not worse, than a disgusting toilet. Look, if you have toothpaste, spit, snot, blood, puke or whatever you manage to get into the sink, please wash it away. Rinse it down. Get rid of it. We don't want to see it. And for God's sake wash your hands. Y'all go into the bathroom, use the toilet and then walk out of the bathroom without washing your hands and then you spread the bubonic plague to everyone that touches the door handle. I'm exaggerating, but you understand my point. Also, please avoid puking in the damn sink. Make it to the toilet if it is within your power.
Kitchens — *facepalm*
I'm not sure who the hell raised some of y'all, but my God. I'm not sure why anyone thinks it's OK to cook something and then leave every scrap left of it either on the stove or in the kitchen sink. Food in a kitchen sink. Has no one taught you anything? You don't put solids in a sink, because it can get clogged like that. Furthermore, no one wants to figure out what's at the bottom of the food swamp you created because not only did you put food in the sink, you mixed dishwashing liquid and a gallon of water with it. Now we have to go scuba diving to figure out what the hell is stopping the sink from draining itself. Be more considerate and clean your crap properly!
Janitors — Appreciate them
I know people can find all kinds of problems with the university's staff — be it teachers, commissions, campaigns or whatever. But I think we ought to appreciate the janitors more. They are the maids who probably don't get paid enough to put up with our shit. And I mean literal shit. They have to go in there before the sun rises and make sure everything is clean for us so that we can go in there and sit on a fresh toilet seat. I'm pretty sure none of them want to clean any human excretions at any point of their day. And I bet none of us would want to have that role in daily life either. So instead of being lazy jerks, help a brother and a sister out. Shout out to the janitorial staff of the University of Rochester, and shout out to the people who actually clean up after themselves!
