Why I Can't Wait To Study Abroad

Studying abroad has the most appealing sound to it. My entire life, I have always wanted to travel the world, but believed I had no possible way to do so. Then I stumbled across a program at my college that will allow me to study in England for my Master's Degree, and I was more than ecstatic. My utmost dream could now become reality and I could get an education at the same time. I am so excited to study abroad and here are some of my top reasons why:

1. I get to experience a different culture.

I cannot wait to learn how people in another different country go about their daily lives, and what aspects of life differ from the norm I am used to. I want to learn their customs and history through exploring the cities.

2. I get to be on my own for the first time.

Being a commuter for my entire undergrad, I never had an opportunity to be on my own. So doing it for the first time in a mother country is an amazing experience.

3. I get to see a new environment.

Different architecture, music, means of transportation etc. I am extremely excited to take my first train/metro.

4. I could get a job out there.

This would allow me to work on my communication skills with people from another country.

5. I could explore a major tourist area.

I have always wanted to go to London ever since I was a little girl when I first watched Peter Pan and saw Big Ben. I swore that day I would visit and explore London, and now I will be able to!

6. The accents.

Honestly I adore British accents, so this is just an added bonus. Hey maybe they will think my horrible Pennsylvania accent is cool.

7. I get to get an education there.

I think it is an amazing opportunity to be able to learn in a new environment. There may be different ways of teaching too which I would be extremely interested in.

8. I get to try new foods.

I mean even if it's not new, are you kidding I have always wanted to have authentic fish and chips!

9. I get to meet new people.

Meeting new people is always exciting, especially in new places. They can teach you a lot about the place you are in by showing you around, telling you facts about it, and even just by hanging out with you.

Needless to say I am extremely excited to start my journey of studying abroad in 3 years. I will get to learn and experience so many new things and that is an amazing feeling.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
