“In every generation, there is a Chosen One. She alone will stand against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness. She is the slayer.” That was just one of the many quotes of my childhood. I don’t think I will ever be able to forget that introduction into one of the best shows that ever aired on television. Growing up, most kids had their idols, their superheroes. Little girls and boys looked up to Spider Man, Batman, Thor, Iron-Man, Superman, etc. Little girls were more about the pop stars of the time, but not me. I had one hero. To this day, she is still one of the greatest superheroes there ever was. Her name is Buffy Summers and I’ve compiled a list of reasons as to why she will go down in history as one of the greatest superheroes.
1. Buffy showed us that everyone just wants to do the normal things in life, despite being extraordinary. All she wanted to accomplish was a somewhat normal teenage life. But she had responsibilities.
2. She showed us we don't always have to look on point when we are declaring a commanding statement.
3. She states the obvious for people on a daily basis. She was always keeping it real.
4. She was never afraid to give a little sass.
5. When she was passionate about something, she never gave up on it. She would fight to the death, literally, for anything or anyone that she believed in.
6. She basically taught us how to be a badass all day, every day.
7. She was always ready to call people out on their flaws, even if it made her deeply uncomfortable.
8. She proved to us that everyone has wishful thinking, even if you have the power and strength to save the world from evil.
9. She taught us that sometimes you are going to be alone in the world and, sometimes, you have to do the things you wish you didn't have to.
10. She proved to us that being loved unconditionally is always a possibility.
11. She liked to state the obvious.
12. She proved that sometimes saving the world is the ultimate sacrifice.
13. She told us that even though the world seems dark sometimes, we need to push through and fight for it because we are strong and we can handle it.
Basically, Buffy shaped my entire life. She became such a big inspiration for the kind of person I wanted to be. Even though she was gifted, she went through all of the motions of growing up and becoming a strong, confident woman. She had unconditional love from her family and friends. She went through all the stages of first loves and the heartbreak that goes along with those. She was brave and empowering. She lived.
