If you aren't a very big Bring Me The Horizon fan you'll probably read this and think "Oh, isn't that a screamo band?" Well, to answer your question, no, Bring Me The Horizon (BMTH) is not an emo band. BMTH is one of my favorite bands. Coming from Sheffield, they started off with Count Your Blessings Back in 2006 and then went on to Suicide Season.
The beginning of their music was a lot of screaming. Front man, Oliver Sykes has one of the most unique screams I have ever heard. Their videos were unique and rather weird. When I first started to listen to them they had just put out their album Sempiternal. This album was a lot different than their first. Their songs off Sempiternal are incredibly powerful. Though anti-religious, they send off powerful vibes to all listeners. When I first listened to their song Go To Hell For Heaven's Sake and their song House of Wolves, I remember feeling like I shouldn't have been listening to them, but being the super hardcore person I am, I got really into them really fast.
Fast forward to now and BMTH just put out a new album, That's The Spirit. This album is incredible with new songs and new sounds. The album is different and die-hard fans said they didn't want to listen to them anymore. From their song Drown (a song about depression) and their song Avalanche (a song about ADHD) this album is incredibly meaningful to me. This band writes music about real problems that people face every day.
Front man, Oli Sykes struggled with addiction and is showing us every day how he is changing as a person. Oli is always so kind to fans he meets and he also has a clothing line called Drop Dead. Being someone who struggles with a mental illness seeing how far someone has come is so inspirational. Not only as corny as this sounds their music has helped me through struggles in my life and makes me feel understood. Oliver is truly one of my greatest inspirations and I hope to meet him someday soon. It is amazing to see how far they have come as a band and you can clearly see this through their music.
I have seen BMTH live maybe 3 or 4 times and every time I have seen them has been amazing. The vibes they bring to the crowd are so powerful and, in my opinion, they are the greatest live band ever. The way they have graphics on their stage and the way the whole bands works together is mesmerizing. I brought my sister to see them with me and she thought they were just as amazing as I did, and she wasn't a fan at the time.
If you don't listen to BMTH and after reading this article I haven't convinced you that they are amazing you can check them out here:
This band is a lot more than a "screamo band" and they are completely revolutionizing the metal scene. Bring Me The Horizon is important because of the unique music they write, they fantastic band members, and the talent they bring to the stage. It is amazing to see that they are playing big venues and are even featured on the radio. Check them out if you are interested in a unique rock band with meaningful songs.
