Why A Breakup Isn’t The End Of The World

It has happened. You and your significant other just went through a breakup and you can’t help but feel like everything in your life is going downhill. You’re watching "The Notebook" remembering all of the good times that came with being in love. The motivation to do anything – even eating – seems unbearable and you just want to lie in bed and cry with a box of tissues. While it’s okay to cry it out and be sad, there are important reasons to remind yourself why a break isn’t the end of the world:

He isn’t the only person in your life who can bring you happiness.

One of the first thoughts that probably came to mind once the break up happened was, “OMG, what am I going to do without him?” He was your best friend and the first person you wanted to share news with. You went on lunch dates together, had a million inside jokes, and on nights when you were both too lazy to go out, hanging out and watching Netflix was your plan A. While all these memories keep replaying in your head, you need to remind yourself of the other people in your life that you can keep creating memories with. Go on a lunch date with your best friend, go see a movie with your little brother or go shopping with your mom. Sometimes when you’re in a relationship you forget about the other important people in your life. Remind yourself that there are so many other people that love and care for you and want to see you happy.

You’re still young and have your whole life ahead of you.

It’s common to feel like you need to have your life all figured out: your major, your future career, where you plan on living, and most often – who you want to be with for the rest of your life. The reality of it is that we are not always going to stay with our boyfriend or girlfriend forever. Maybe you guys fought often about little things or you thought you could ignore the fact that his room is always dirty despite the fact that you’re a neat freak. Life happens and some things are just not meant to be. Don’t think that you need to find the person you are going to marry at a young age. Use the time you are single to continue growing and exploring without having to keep another person in mind. Being young is about finding yourself and working towards who you want to be in the future so use this time to reflect and work towards your goals.

You can be bad all by yourself.

Don’t worry about not having anyone to look nice for and go on cute dates with. When you’re putting on makeup and you’re excited to put on the new shoes that you just bought, remember how amazing you look and don’t do it for anyone but yourself. When you look good, you feel good; don’t be afraid to go out in your best dress without feeling like you have to do it for the attention of someone else.

It always gets better.

While you might feel like your world is ending right now, it always gets better. The pictures that once hung on your wall of you two together will come down and you’ll soon delete the Instagram posts so that it will be easier to forget all the memories. Although things did not work out in the relationship this time, you will find your prince charming one day.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
