Why Being Busy is the Best Thing that Ever Happened to Me

Since the summer is drawing to a close and I am anxious to get back to school, I have reflected a lot on why I enjoy school so much. Believe it or not it isn't because of the fact I get to see and live with my best friends, but that I miss always having something to do.

I know what awaits me when I return to Maryland in a few weeks- a hot mess of things to do, places to go, and people to see. As a full time nursing student going into my Junior year, school is going to over take my life this fall and I am perfectly okay with that. I also work 2 (sometimes 3) part time jobs, so I know how to manage a schedule. When I am not in class or at work I am either doing homework/ studying, socializing with friends, or volunteering. I have found that I thrive on being busy.

This summer has been great and wonderful but I am very happy for it to soon be over. I work a 40 hour week when I am home and that is really it besides hanging out with my family and friends. This summer I did add an ASL class to the schedule but I still feel like a huge chunk of my life is just missing. I think that being busy has given me some great gifts and life skills such as;

Keeps My Mind and Body Active

Not only does always having something going on keep me physically active because I am always running around like a chicken with my head cut off, but it also helps to keep my mind sharp. I know that my memory and mental capabilities have definitely improved since college, and I think it's just because I am constantly absorbing new information from new experiences as well as remembering what is next on my To-Do list.

Gives the Motivation to Keep on Going

Personally I feel as if the pressure of always having something going on is a great motivator to continue on. "I have to finish reading this chapter because I need to be at work in an hour," is a common thought that is going through my mind on a typical Tuesday afternoon. The pressure adds a push that gives me a drive to accomplish what I need to.

You Always Have a Goal

Having a goal is a large part of being motivated. Being busy allows me to have multiple goals all at once which does help to keep me motivated. Having goals helps you to accomplish tasks in order to reach them. I can honestly say that there is nothing better than completing a goal that you have had for a while- especially if you do it ahead of schedule.

You Can Never Say that You're Bored

Never being bored is definitely my favorite part about being so busy. I can't remember a time at school where I have had absolutely nothing to do. This doesn't mean that there is no time for relaxing- but I believe there is a strong difference between being bored and relaxing.

Being a busy and productive member of society has given me so many joys and experiences. I have met different people and made connections that will last a lifetime. It is important to understand that there is a difference between being overwhelmingly busy and just busy. If you ever feel overwhelmed then take a break and do something for you, or revaluate all the things on your schedule, see if something can go. All in all- take life in and enjoy all that it has to offer!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
