My whole life I have loved babysitting. I remember wanting to be older just so I could babysit. I have always had a passion for babies and children. I am so glad that I have gotten the opportunity to babysit so many wonderful children throughout my life. I know I am supposed to be teaching them, but here are a few things they have taught me.
How to be responsible.
For a very long period of time we are responsible for another human. It is like no pressure but their life is literally in our hands. We learn how to be responsible in that we have to watch out for their safety, feed them, change them, and teach them. We are so thankful for the opportunity to learn this type of responsibility at a young age. It prepares us for so many other jobs, as well as college, and future motherhood.
How to love.
We know how to love, but we experience such a deeper feeling of love for the kids we babysit. We never knew that we could love a little human so much even though we may only see them few times throughout the year. We will always have our kids back because we feel like we got to watch them grow and up. They teach us so many things about love that we never knew. They are walking representations of unconditional love. They teach us that love forgives and love is full of adventures.
How to multitask.
Babysitting taught us to do a million things at once. It taught us how to make food, clean, and keep the baby happy all at the same time. Multitasking is such a necessarily tool for almost everything we will need to do in life, so this experience is very valuable.
How to listen.
You will learn very quick that if you cannot listen, you cannot babysit. You have to know how to listen to your children. They know what they need and it is your job to give it to them. You need to learn how to listen to the parents to know the schedules and important information. Listen up, your kids will crack you up with their stories most of the time too.
How to help.
Babysitting teaches you how to lend a helpful hand and how to be a contributing member. As a babysitter you have to help your child with everything. You have to help them walk, figure out toys, homework, and much more. There is literally a tiny person counting on you to help them with just about everything. Babysitting teaches you how to help others and it reminds you that you can always be some sort of help to some person.
How to be selfless.
Babysitting will teach you how to put others needs before your own. It will teach you how to think of yourself last. It will fill you with joy because you get to help another person. You'd be amazed how much your life can change when you take the attention off of yourself.
To appreciate moms.
Basically, we are only in your shoes for a few hours or maybe a whole day, and we have one thing to say. We do not know how you do it! You guys are amazing and we just hope to be like you one day! Also, we love your kids so much!
