Why Trinity Students Can't Wait For August 20th To Get Here

If you’re anything like me, you absolutely can’t wait for school to start. The smell of new supplies is in the air. You can finally be reunited with your buds who live in different cities and states (maybe even countries!). It’s time for your wardrobe to be 80 percent maroon (the best school color, obviously). It’s time to hit up the bookstore and start memorizing your new schedule. Fall is here, y’all.

Heck if you’re really like me, you might even be going back three days early to help the freshman move in because you’re just itching to be back on that red brick campus.

With sophomore move-in being less than a month away, I think it’s finally appropriate to voice my excitement. Here’s why Welcome Week is just one of the best times of the year:

1. You get to live with with your best friends again (or meet them!).

This may be the best of them all; your friends are only a few steps away at any given moment. Need some help understanding Microeconomics? Need someone to go to Mabee and grab grub with? Need a Netflix partner? You're covered.

2. You get to meet your Resident Mentor/Advisor.

It's always fun to meet new people, even more so when that person is going to be there for you 24-7. Hall Moms and Dads are the greatest.

3. You get to decorate your dorm.

Spicing up the bare walls with your own personality is one of the biggest perks of dorm life, wouldn't you agree?

4. Class Kick Offs

Any excuse for music and dancing is fine by me. I'm assuming there will be snacks too, so ya know, boyar.

5. The Student Involvement Fair - August 22nd

Want to get involved on campus! Now's your chance!! All the clubs on campus will be there from 7 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. representing. Don't hesitate to jump in with both feet and make some new pals.

6. The All Campus Picnic - August 23rd

You had me at "picnic."

7. Convocation - August 23rd

This is such an iconic experience. Welcome to the family, first years!! Watch your step up the tower. We're all cheering for you!

8. The Welcome Week Movie in Mabee - August 23rd

Anytime that there is a free movie and food in Mabee, you can expect me to be there. I can’t wait to find out what this year’s flick is, see you at 9 p.m.!

9. The Reading TUgether Panel - August 24th

This year's book was "Salt, Sugar, Fat" by Michael Moss. Moss will be discussing his important health novel in Laurie at 7 p.m.

10. The first days of a new class.

Get ready for ice breakers. Think of some fun facts about yourself. Enjoy the only days that might be a little easier than the rest.

11. The Welcome Week Comedian - August 25th

Ronnie Jordan is going to bring the house down! Laurie. 9 p.m. - 10 p.m. Be there or be square.

12. The Welcome Week Concert - August 27th

T-Pain was great last year so I’m wracking my brain trying to guess who we’ll get this time around. Don’t forget your ID at 8:30 p.m.!

13. The Poster Sale - August 31st through September 2nd

Remember when I talked about decorating your dorm? Here’s a great opportunity to get some swag for your walls. They have tons to choose from, don’t miss out!

14. Labor Day Weekend

Although we all love Trinity, it’ll be nice to get a break. This week has us exhausted!

As you can see, Trinity does a great job of making sure your first week back on campus is one you’ll remember. There’s nothing quite like it. Thank heavens that I have three more to look forward to. See you soon!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
