Why I Appreciate My Mother

Why I Appreciate My Mother
If I'm Half The Mom That My Mom Is...

"Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her."

- Proverbs 31:25-28

In life, everyone accomplishes different things. Everyone is given different opportunities, handed different cards, and experience different blessings and/or struggles. Despite whether these things are good or bad, there is always that one person that we can thank for helping us reach those good things, or for helping us get through those bad. For me, that person is my mother.

There are countless reasons as to why my mother is this person to me, most of which I could not even begin to find the words to explain. Though, there are some reasons that are easily pointed out, mostly in a rant as they all speak for themselves with no explanation necessary.

To begin, I wouldn't be here without her. She has made me the person I am today. She taught me to stand up for myself, and more importantly to stand up for others (even if I don't go about it in the exact way that she would prefer)! She taught me to believe in myself, and to never give up. My mother has never stopped loving me, even when I was pretty sure I gave her all the reason to hate me. She has raised me in faith, and has made sure that I knew that the only one that would ever come close to loving me more than she did, was God.

My mother is my role model and inspiration, in all things. She always believes in me, and is my number one fan. No matter what, she is always on my team! Through my ugliest times, my mother always manages to see the good in me. She always swears that I am the most beautiful girl in the room, and always closes with her usual, "Well, how can you not be? You are my daughter after all!". She is also the only one that I would sit through insane amounts of consecutive episodes of "America's Next Top Model" with; the show is definitely not my favorite, but it's one of hers, so it's worth it!

I couldn't stand to go out of state for college, because that would mean I can't rush home every weekend to see her. Her awful singing has become one of my favorite things, though I make sure she thinks I feel otherwise! And after-all, who else would I have gotten this attitude from? She drives me beyond crazy 125% of the time, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

I also realize that I am slowly becoming a lot more like her... and I'm more than okay with it (for the most part)! Not to mention, the woman can pick (and obviously buy) a pair of shoes! And even though I am almost positive that she likes our pets more than she likes me the majority of the time, she will always be my favorite person. Plus, she can save a life, literally, and she works very hard and is past dedicated to everything that she does. So, I think it's safe to say that she is not the only one proud here.

My mother always manages to give, even when it seems like there's nothing left to give. My mom is my rock. She has played EVERY role in my life, including the one of my best friend. She is by far the strongest person I know. And most importantly, I know I can always count on her, no matter what.

My mother is so much more than just a mother to me, and I am beyond blessed to be her daughter. Thank you, and love you always.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
