Opinions about the controversial female comic, Amy Schumer, are mixed. With her broad range of sex jokes and tendency to speak her mind without a filter, parents all over America might cringe at the thought of Amy Schumer being considered "a role model." While her particular brand of comedy is definitely too much for a 6-year-old, as a 21-year-old woman I consider Schumer one of my primary role models. Before you judge, here are ten fantastic reasons why:
1. She's not afraid to admit to failure.
As a comic, Schumer has faced career flops, proving that even the most successful celebrities experience setbacks and disappointments. Instead of pretending like these embarrassments didn't happen, Schumer claims her past.
2. She's a feminist.
Many women are afraid to admit to being feminists because they worry it might make them come off as "man haters." Amy Schumer, on the other hand, not only admits to feminist views but also defends women constantly through the use of comedy, sending a powerful message to society and women everywhere.
3. She isn't ashamed of her body.
While Schumer isn't considered "obese," she certainly isn't one of the size 0 women that seem to have taken over Hollywood in the past few decades. While it would be easy for her to hire a personal trainer and chef and drop some weight, Amy Schumer owns her body. She admits that she likes to eat and hates exercising and doesn't care, because at 160 pounds she's still beautiful.
4. She didn't let Hollywood change her.
It's pretty easy to see which celebrities let fame and fortune go to their heads. Even with the success of her first movie, "Trainwreck", and her hit TV show, "Inside Amy Schumer," Schumer continues to be funny, relatable and completely humbled by her celebrity status. Not to mention the fact that she's a total fangirl despite being a celeb herself.
5. She's not afraid to talk about sex.
It's a common misconception that women shouldn't ever talk or think or, hell, even like sex. That's why so many people are shocked when Schumer openly makes jokes about her sex life. She's not a *quote* "good girl" and that's awesome. Women shouldn't have to apologize for being human beings. Women shouldn't be shamed for making a sex joke that people would find hilarious if a man had made it.
6. She's not afraid to speak her mind.
Whether it's about sex or gun control or women's rights, everything that comes out of Amy Schumer's mouth is open and honest. As a country, we need more people who aren't afraid to tell the truth.
7. She's immensely talented.
Not only does she write her own jokes and sketches for her stand-up and TV show, but she also wrote and starred in her movie "Trainwreck," which has been nominated for several awards.
8. She's best friends with Jennifer Lawrence.
You know someone is awesome if they're best friends with the other coolest woman in Hollywood.
It's hard to find someone who can teach you so much about self-love and acceptance in an hour long, painfully funny comedy special. Amy Schumer is a truly gifted comedian and while others might find her humor "trashy," she is one of the only women in Hollywood that I find worthy of looking up to.
